We are grilling out hamburgers. I was thinking of making homemade macaroni and cheese and corn on the cob. My hubbie hates potato salad, cole slaw, and macaroni salad (basically anything cold & creamy). WHAT ELSE CAN I SERVE?? Any good easy recipes or ideas??

A three bean salad is a good and healthy alternative to the creamy salads, and you can make it with a homemade mustard and vinegar dressing. A good hot alternative is baked beans. Instead of potato salad, you could grill up some potato wedges with seasoning.

homemade mac and cheese is a good idea as is corn on the cob. I would also recommend regular potatoes. Maybe a jello salad? Or frog eye salad. And if anyone else is gonna be at this BBQ, then you have to have potato salad, cole slaw and all that stuff. If he doesn't like it, he doesn't have to eat it. But those are, like, requirments at a BBQ. Good Luck! And have fun!

I think the baked beans and corn on the cob will be great. Use the Bush's suggested by someone else but dress them up. Take sliced bacon and snip into half inch pieces and scramble in a frying pan.. remove when almost done .. brown half a diced onion in the drippings .. add the bacon and onion to the beans with a little more brown sugar. Microwave 3-4 pieces of bacon until half done. Stir the beans, bacon bits, onion and sugar in a casserole dish and lay the bacon strips on top. Bake until the bacon cooks and the beans are heated. I fix this for my family at every cookout. Have a great BBQ!!! *SMILE*

I'd make a small creamy sald for your guests and then get creative...have cheese and cracker... get a hoagie and cut into small slices, do a vinegar cole slaw ( in Pittsburgh we out this on the burger with fries...mmm) You can fry some cabbage and noodles too ( called haluski) Chips and dips are always good too...do some chips and salsa then maybe a spinache dipp....Mix it up a bunch of little that way everyone likes something...

I always do a potato bake - layer very thinly sliced potatoes with chopped spring onions in a greased baking dish, pour in single cream to just cover the potatoes and top with a generous amount of grated cheese. Bake in the oven for an hour covered with foil, then take off the foil for 30 minutes to let it brown. You could parboil the spuds first to cut down cooking time. Delicious with any grilled meat.

try grilled baked potatoes that you smother in butter and salt and pepper and wrap in tin-foil. Maybe corn on the cob grilled the same way as the potatoes i mentioned. you could also serve some fruit kabobs....mmmm. fresh fruit (cut up if big) on a stick is a good way to end a meal.

Grilled veggies are great. (like onions, asparagus, tomatoes, bell peppers, maybe some squash) Toss them in olive oil with salt and pepper and then put them together in a bowl for a colorful side dish.

Some fruit is great too. Grilled pineapple is delicious when the sugars carmelize.

Maybe try a good brocolli salad? (its very flavorful and has lots of great textures.)
