I was born and raised veggo for 21 years and I realised that it hadn't been my choice to live that way. So I started eating meat. I want to know why you would choose vegetarianism and why you would raise your children as vegetarians

i'm a vegetarian too (only since am f3). well i think it's not that bad to be a vegetarian. fr biological view, the structure of our intestine is very long (about 6m) which is very similar to rabbit (vegetarian). carnivours n omnivours usually have very short intestine. plus, our teeth are are design to chew not to tear (like tiger) and even the shape of our teeth are not as sharp as carnivours. i choose to be ORGANIC vegetarian because most of the essential nutrition can get fr vegetables alone, why bother eat meat? plus now the meat, lets say chicken, then inject so much growth hormone in it, u feel safe to eat?? can u imagine that all the growth hormone apparently goes into your body when u eat it? why people getting cancer nowsaday? it could be due to those growth hormone. our body immune system have the ability to fight those mutated cells but those growth hormone that u accidentally ate, might cause the mutated cells to grow more. and what those chickens eat now is no longer natural wheat...what they eat now is chemically processed. those chemical will essentially deposit in your body. *bluek*... most ppl say it's safe to eat fish...well i don't agree with it compleately as u know, fish are now living in poluted seas (ppl tend say eat fish that r fr outter sea, less poluted). in addition, most fish had mercury deposit on them n u may end up with mecury toxicity! some ppl claimed that we still nead protein!! well, u can get protein from all sorts of beans!! so why i emphasis ORGANIC?? this is because most vegetarian they eat fried food! those "vegetarian meat" are fried right?? u wont live healthier by eating this way as you end up having high cholesterol and heart attack. in addition, normal vegetables in the market are sprayed with pesticides, insectisides and some even growth hormone! i wont want to have those chemicals in my body, so i choose ORGANIC :) furthermore, many vegetables are anti-oxidant. it will not only help u to be younger, it helps fight free radicals generated in your body (which can cause cancer). besides, when u are a vegetarian, u shouldnt b choosy. u should eat all variety of colours of vegetables (eg, carrot, broccoli, cauliflower, mushrooms) and fruits before meal everyday. although this doesnt 100% guarantee u will get all nutrients u need, but it will ensure that u will not lost too much of it. i have no children but i will raise them as vegetarian and educate them. when they grow up, they an choose how they want to live their life with :)

I'm a vegetarian because I don't believe that animals should suffer and be killed so I can eat them. Biologically, I can live and thrive without eating animals, so I don't.

I do not now have children but I plan to. I would explain why I don't eat meat to my children. And of course I would feed my children vegetarian food at home because, well, that's what I cook. If at any point they decided to eat meat on their own, I wouldn't stop them, but I still wouldn't cook it for them.

I consider myself a vegetarian ( though not a strict one ) because overall, it's just what I like. Big chunks of meat don't appeal to me.I ate a lot of meat when I was a child but as I got older and started preparing my own meals, I often chose veggies.

I believe that from the start, I would serve my children the foods I love. But as they age....I would allow them to choose what they like -- as long as their eating habits are healthy overall. I'd have no problem with them eating a hamburger or steak or whatever every now and then - just as long as they keep a healthy balance.

Parents raise their children according to their beliefs. Christian parents wouldn't consider taking their children to church and teaching them the Ten Commandments as "imposing" anything on their kids; they'd consider it their duty as loving parents to raise their kids according to the truth as they understand it. I am a vegetarian because I believe it's the right thing to do and not raising my kids vegetarian would be like saying that their consciousness and the development of it was somehow less important than my own. It's part of my belief system and I will share it with my children. Once they are old enough to understand the choice, they can make it for themselves, but until then it's my responsibility as a parent to raise my kids according to the truth as I understand it.

First you should not make your kids eat meat or anything for that matter. Children know what they need to eat and when. There body lets them know and they listen. Unlike us who were taught to eat now or later a specific time. Vegans believe that this is a healther way to live longer. As long as you dont eat red meat every day and cook your meat at temps.; then you should be fine.

To answer your question, I'm a vegan for animal cruelty purposes.

When I have kids, they will be vegan if *both* my SO and I agree on it. After all, they are not entirely mine and, most importantly, they need to make decisions for themselves.

However, if we do decide this for them, they will be vegans all through their childhood. I will let them choose for themselves what they want to eat when they are teenagers.

And I would rather them feel comfortable telling me then doing it in secret. Also, I would make sure that they did this slowly and safely because sometimes going from vegan to a meat eater can really mess up your body, especially your digestive system.

Overall, it's their choice, not mine, with how they live their life when they are mature, young adults (teenagers) But, before that time comes (and it goes by real fast) it's healthy vegan-ness.

Personal choice! I've gone back and forth thru the yrs. but have to say I feel better as a vegetarian. I don't feel so bogged down and tired as when I eat meat. Also when I eat meat I crave sweets more.

I won't ever serve dead animals to my children, and I could say it's simply because not only do they not need it, they're actually healthier without it, and it's true, but it's not the whole truth. I'm a vegetarian because I think it's wrong to eat animals and to exploit and abuse them as if they were emotionless objects, so of course that my ethics towards animals won't change when it comes to feeding my children, especially because there's no need to. If they ever want to try it, they can and I won't prohibit them from doing so, but not in our house and surely not cooked by us! I don't intend to force anything on them, but I will attempt to educate them to respect and care for Life and not to be selfish. Hopefully, I'll be a competent educator and they will not feel the need to rebel against what I teach them.

I am a Vegan and my wife a vegetarian. We eat this way for health reasons. There is plenty of research to support this beneficial view. We have two children 12y/o and 7y/o. We do not dictate how they eat. They can eat what they want, within limits. We do not have junk food or sugary snacks in our house. They will eat chicken or fish when out to dinner. They usually tend to follow our example of healthy eating...Mostly fruits and vegetables, mostly organic..

Did you ever notice that if Parents are fat, the kids usually are also. It is the same with healthy parents. Their kids are usually healthy also...

I'm vegetarian because for health reasons not political ones. If I had children I would definitely serve them meat. However, if they decided that they wanted to try out being vegetarian I would encourage them to.

Try the opposite way around. Since he went to a petting zoo in 2nd grade my son has refused all meat, fish and poultry. Both his father and stepfather were horrified that I would not force him to eat meat. But I accomodated him, and now as an almost 12 years old he is still veggie, and also refuses soda and candy. I still eat white meat and fish occasionally, and he pressures me not to. Basically as long as a child is well fed and healthy , forcing them to eat any particular way is wrong.
