there is no way you had 140/180 bloodpressure. What kind of quack told you that or did you misunderstand? 140/80 sounds more real.
Get a real doctor and have it checked again.

The first number is wrong because blood pressure is always an even number. It CANNOT be read to an odd number and the top number (the systolic) can't be higher than the bottom number (the diastolic). Either way, the bottom number was too high. The doctor rechecked it because of that and made an error of his own. The bottom number can not be higher than the top number and chances are it was 180/140 or 140/80. Your doctor should monitor it over an extended period of time, and would have made some serious reccomendations if he/she was overly concerned. If you're concerned that it's high, drive yourself to the nearest corner pharmacy and pick up an electric B/P cuff. Check your B/P in the morning and at night (but not after exertion) and track the results for you physician. Be sure to take the values with you to your next visit.

You probably made an error in the doctor's reading, it was probably 140/80. The assistant's measurement might have been due to apprehension on your part. If I were you, I would purchase a home pressure cuff and learn how to take my own blood pressure. Even at 140/80 you are borderline.

Well you don't have to worry IF you have HBP its a for sure thing now!
I tent to run very high too, but now I'm on dialysis and it still runs like that!!!
You might want to have the doctor write it down for you, so you have the correct numbers. The 175/140 is extremally high but the 140/180 is a mistake. or your dead and just don't know it??
Take care and take your meds.
Good Luck

well 1st of all ur values r wrong...u can never have 140/180..its impossible, coz the systolic is always ALWAYS greater than diastolic. so considering u ve 180/140... u definitely have high blood pressure and require urgent treatment. plz consi\ult ur doc and not a quack

I think you must have mixed up your values...the upper number as in 175/110....is the systolic pressure and the lower number is the diastolic pressure (110)...In treating blood pressure problems, we look at the lower number as most significant...and at 110 diastolic pressure is elevated. I would evaluate you for weight, cholestremia (high cholesterol) and look at other causes. But in any event your blood pressure is high and needs to be corrected.

well it depends on whether or not it was done on the same arm cause that really messes with ur bp, cause ur vessels are already contracted and the blood is flowing faster/harder to get through. that's why they should always do it on diff. arms if it is needed more than once. the same thing happened to me during pregnancy. they would take it at the Dr. office get all worried send me to the hosp. to be checked out and by the time i got there i was fine, its just one of those things any little think can screw you up!

The second reading is impossible and even reversed, I suspect faulty equipment or faulty takers. The first reading is possible, but with the second reading as faulty as it is, I wouldn't trust either reading. Find someone with a blood pressure cuff who knows how to use it before you jump to any conclusions.

This could be a error, but keep checking it. bp goes up if you are acrtive or worried excessivley. How old are you and do you smoke, are you overweight, have family history of high bp. Tell the gp
