aaron, i commend you on your conscience, faith in the veggie-system, and respect for others, which, judging from your inquiry, it seems that some people remain yet uninformed and/or ignorant about animal sufferage and/or health reasons people choose a vegetarian or vegan lifestyle!
i say "lifestyle", because more often than not, immersing oneself in a respect-oriented culinary subculture, we educate ourselves, "do our homework", stand up for what we believe to be right, feed ourselves in a manner consistant with our beliefs, and we treat our fellow inhabitants (animals included, of course!) with the same respect, (i HOPE! *ahem*) we would like.
i went vegetarian 3 years ago, after many run-ins with meat sickness induced by several types of meat. i got plain sick and tired of "worrying" every time i bit into a piece of meat, whether i'd be clutching the toilet afterwards! so i researched vegetarianism. it turns out, there are lots more than i had even thought of - animal sufferage, animal tesing, all sorts of unnecessary and inhumane tortures / living conditions that fellow earth creatures had to endure. quite frankly, i was so repulsed by what i learned and saw, i pldeged that i would be the best herbivore i could be.
as of last semester, i made the jump to vegan - a bridge not terrible in crossing at all.
haha it's like a Vegans Anonymous meeting! "...*ahem* hi... i'm justin, and...i'm a vegan. i've been meat-free for 3 years!" :P
you have my sympathy and support, friend.

I doubt anyone has a problem with your choosing to eat that way. What they MAY object to is a political posture that sometimes goes with people who feel they have found 'the way' and try to convert others to their way of eating. One of my friends is the sort of 'meat is murder' type I am talking about. While I certainly see his point, and personally I mostly only eat fish and rarely chicken, I also respect the freedom of others to choose what they want to eat and enjoy or suffer the consequences.
Just a thought.

i am vegetarian too and i dont get why certain people act all weird about me not eating meat and fish, i think they just are not used to knowing people who are vegetarian and are uncomfortable being around us when we eat, so making fun or stuff like that is just their way of admiring us. some people support vegetarianism though. Anyways, it doesnt matter what other people think, we are doing a good thing.

I can only speak for myslef, but i don't have anything against vegetarians(it's your life and I really don't care). What i do find annoying is people who say their way is healthier, the thruth of the matter is that is just plain bias.
I could go on and on explaining how the idea "meat is murder" and how vegans are "healthier" are
seriously flawed but i'm too lazy, noone would care(accept their beliefs are flawed), and it's all been said before

I wasn't aware of people who had anything against vegetarians. At most they just think you're a little weird. Meat tastes good. Tofurkey just sounds gross. :)
If you choose not to eat meat, more power to ya. I must question your choice of veggies though- Do your cucumbers die of natural causes, or are they tragically ripped from the earth simply to satisfy your hunger pangs?

It's all about ignorance. People that were raised eating meat aquired the taste and since they were raised that way they deeply believe in that way and that way only and they will fight to the end to try and make people believe in their way. What people don't realize is that eating meat is aquired not required.

I have nothing against vegetarians. I love & miss meat. I haven't had meat in days, so I may as well become a vegetarian.

You've answered your own question by sticking in the sermon about eating meat-people don't like to be preached at.

Why don't you hunt? It is the only meat I can handle. Other than that I don't any other meat then that. It makes me sick, because of all the additives they give the animals.
