umm.. to record their heart? Ok, joking aside, that is exactly what it is for. To see if there is irregularity in the rhythm, beats, etc during normal activity, during sleep, and all the things that you normally do. They are trying to see if there is a pattern, such as activity causes irregular heart beat, or something of the sort. They will find out much about the heart, more than I can begin to list here. Don't worry bout the outcome at this time, just follow the doc's instructions so it will be accurate.

I believe you must mean a heart monitor, one you Carry with you where ever you go and sleep with it. If this describes the device you have questions about. Then it's to monitor the heart for any irregularities, such as arrhythmia's, tachycardia, block's in the conduction system of the heart. The list is very lengthy to even attempt to discuss all the reasons one might be ordered by there doctor to wear a heart monitor is impossible to explore in depth here.

They put me on one to see how many times my heart skipped beats. I was having trouble with my heart, it basically would shake like it was in afibrillation and then it would come out of it. I ended up having a heart transplant 10 months later.

they are looking for things like missed beats and signs of heart troubles they would properly keep it on for the 2 weeks so the person can keep a diary of what they are doing so the Dr knows what is going on with there heart.
