I've been told that this is true and is one of the reasons why fatty mexican dishes are typically served with lime.

Are there any health/dieting effects also?

Citrus fruits contain a mild acid which slightly break down fat. It's very subtle, though, not enough for dietary effects but more of a reaction for taste (think lemon juice and olive oil as a marinade).

Mexican dishes are served with lime to counteract the hot spices.

Lemons and Limes are actually really good for you, they have a lot of vitamin C and they do indeed aid in digestion. The best way to REAP benefits is to squeeze their juice into a glass of luke warm water.

Not sure about that, I'll have to look into it. But pineapple and papaya contain enzymes that make digestion much easier. ps, about the enamel part that someone just mentioned, that is true so you should always swish with water after having citrus.
