name, you have to meet
the botanical experts and explain them about it.
There may be several types
of these kind. In Bengal, it is
Known as Taal. In Bihar, it is
known as Taari and so on.
Please get to talk to The Botanical
Gardens, Kolkata, which is the
Premier institute in the country.
Alternatively, you can approach
any Professor of Botany and explain
him about it and you may get the name.
I will give you an example about its
unpopularity. I love it to my heart.
The entire North India is ignorant
about the fruit. Once I visited Sikandra,
(near Agra), where Akbar was buried.
There I found atleast 100 trees with
fruits on them and sqattered on the ground.
I asked the Gardener, why there were no takers
of these fruits. The Mali was surprised,
when I told him that an excellent,
delicacy is made at our home. I got four
of them for home. He said that those were
jungle fruits, and not meant for humanbeing.
Similar opinion may be prevailing in US.

Here's a description I found of it:
Nunguu in tamil, tadgola in gujarati are fruits of palm trees.
They are soft, juicy grey-whitish,slimmy sweet and cool fruit covered with a cream cover that tastes bitter. This is found in groups of three inside palm fruits. Usually available in summer.
Apparently it is also called:
Targole (singular form is targola) grow on palms, and are probably related to coconuts. They have peelable skins and thick, edible pulp (kind of between patla malai and hard copra, in terms of cocunut meat). The pulp surrounds a very little bit of juice; as you bite into the fruit, you get the same effect as you do when you pierce the chicken, in chiken cordon bleu, with your fork: a flavorful burst in the form of a squirt. A piece of tarola fits in your palm. You never eat one; you are served at least half a dozen at a time. (I can eat a gross.) You don't use cutlery to eat this fruit (warning: peeling the fruit will have you leave opaque stains on anything touched, so your hands will need to be properly washed).
Further down, someone calls tadgola "Eerolu."

can we call coconut a fruit ? similarly, tadgolas are not exactly fruit. the process of removing them from their purple, hard shells, requieres skills to peel with sharp knives, and only those who know how to do it can dare, for fear of cutting their fingers in the process. i see them in summer, have tasted them, but once they are overgrown, they have no water inside, and taste terrible. toddy is made from the juices collected from the trunks of the palm trees, and is alcoholic.jaggery is also made from palm.
i haven't seen tadgolas in u.s. there are so many other good fruits, plenty, who would care for tadgolas there ? it's a poor man's delight, a cheap one at that !
