Pneumonia can be caused by allergies. Allergies causes mucus buildup, which can block up the lungs, which can cause bacteria and/or a virus to grow and cause pneumonia. Should only be a concern in immuno-compromised individuals or someone who is already sick.

As pneumonia is an inflammation of the lungs, it can be caused by any number of things, although it is usually bacterial or viral. I would hazard to say that it is fairly rare for pneumonia to be caused by allergies. Have you discussed it with your physician or the nurses involved in the care?

I have allergies and asthma. I had pneumonia one time and it started from my asthma getting out of control. It was very uncomfortable. My doctor called it walking pneumonia. It is not as serious as other kinds.

I suffer from allergies quite a bit, and my understanding from my physician is that it makes me more susceptible to pneumonia. I've had bronchitis numerous times in my life, but pneumonia rarely.

This is hard for us to try to help you help her. IF this little girl has already had many tests, what were they testing for? What were the outcomes of the tests? If the doctors suspect anything, they would have told the mother what to look for. If she doesn't understand what the doctors say, or can't remember, she must take someone with her. This child needs a definite medical evaluation with a definite treatment plan. In the meantime, if the child is running a high fever, 104 or above, and if the child is shaking a lot, or if the child's eyes are dilating, or she is not making sense, either call an ambulance or get her to an emergencyroom. Getting the shakes and feeling bad really quickly means she is really sick and should see a doctor. I personally would suspect the pizza, unless it's part of her on-going problem.

YES! Allergies can cause mucus to build up in the sinus, throat, and lungs. This mucus can build fluid in the lungs/congestion which CAN lead to pneumonia.
