I want to ask to those who are vegetarians...
What kind of food do you guys give to your dogs or cats?
I love animals and i don't want to eat them, but I think that if I don't give my dog at least moderate quantities of meat to eat, it will suffer from deficiencies.
What do you think?

I give meat to my dog!
I was just wondering what other people, who are vegetarians, do.

Referred to those who believe that dogs are carnivores...
domestic dogs are not purely carnivores, but omnivores (Wikipedia, + I study these things)
Dog's diet must also include other things. And with "also" I don't mean "only".
Meat + veggies + carbs should be perfect.
Cats are obligate carnivores. They really need meat to live.

I have read that a dog can get along just fine without meat if the rest of its diet is carefully planned, but cats MUST have meat because they cannot make an essential amino acid (taurine, I think) that is present only in meat. Lots of dogs and cats really like veggies - I can remember a cat that would eat corn off the cob and another that adored asparagus, and a farmer friend had a dog who are carrots, beans, and whatever else was in season. But for cats at least, there has to be some meat in the diet for them to be healthy.

Vegetarianism is a lifestyle that I chose for myself and I have no authority to try and force others ( human or animal) to be a vegetarian too. My cats and dogs eat meat b/c they are meant to. I have one cat, however that LOVES english peas and my dogs like to eat stewed potatoes and carrots! I do offer them cooked veggies, but if they don't want them and prefer to eat their dog/cat food, that is alright with me....

Vegetarians do not make dogs starve of their food. They know that dog has to be fed meat. But they may do it once in a while.

Give your pets meat. Even though I am a vegan I dont force other to be one too and that goes for animals too. Dont starve your pets. Being a vegetarian is a lifestyle you choose and you dont have the right to make the choice for others including your pets and in the future your kids!

Your dog is getting everything it needs from it's food. Why would you poison it with meat?

I am not a vegetarian/vegan......... Please listen to my point and make up your own mind. Dog and cats are natural carnivores, therefore by serving anything without meat is not natural...and could be considered "animal cruelty"

dogs are meant to eat meat. thats natural. thats how their digestive system works. by depriving them of meat, you are being cruel to an animal, i expect thats not your intended outcome?
