First, have her test her ketones. That means getting a urine sample, and dipping a ketone strip it it. If it turns pink (any shade of pink), take her to an ER. (I don't normally advocate that, but this is pretty serious.) Also, if you don't have ketone strips, choose if you want to go to the ER or get them from a twenty four hour pharmacy. They're not perscripiton, but they're not cheap. You can get a box of twenty, I think.
If she doesn't have ketones, call her doctor (if s/he is on call).
I know its scary. Take a deep breathe. The best thing you can do right now, while you wait, is make sure she is drinking pleanty of water, and doesn't eat anything else. If she is sick, or hasn't been taking her medication this can happen.
Good luck!

I'm a Registered Nurse. Take her Blood Sugar again. But first check the meter. Is the meter code and the code on the strip bottle the same? If not, change the code on the meter to match the code to the bottle. Has the bottle of strips expired? If yes, take bottle now to an opened pharmacy and purchase a new bottle. If they have not expired. Then check the meter if it is working correctly. Meters come with high and low solutions. If meter reads with high and low solutions are correct. Take her blood sample again. If high, call her doctor now. She may need to go to the emergency room or an open Medical center and have her checked. They will check her booed level with stat lab work and give her insulin as needed. Just do not do nothing. Best to get her checked out and she is fine than to do nothing and she goes in to DKA, Diabetic KetoAcidosis. Take action now. Hope she is fine.

I would try to recheck first to make sure the reading is correct, even the best meters can get aincorrect reading from time to time...does she feel that her sugars may be very high, increased thirst, grogginess, headache, nausea?? etc etc
most meters read the word HI when your glucose levels are over 600, Ive been diabetic for 19 years & any meter Ive used (and Ive used A LOT of em) read up to 599. so if your reading is HI then you REALLY need to do some serious insulin, maybe even get to the ER if this is possbile....sorry didnt see that you said patient is not on insulin...go to the ER!!! HURRY!!! there is for sure something going on that needs attention!!!

on my one touch ultra meter HI means that your blood sugar is over 500...when its over 500 the meter just quits giving u an actual number...it'll just say HI instead....if my meter says LO then it means that ur blood sugar is below 20
u could also look in the manual that hopefully came with the meter...it should tell u what all those little things mean. thats how i figured out what HI and LO meant

It is really high..check the blood sugar in a laboratory immediately. Th\o check the Glucometer, when you go to the laboratory, put one drop of same blood to the strip...to know the accuracy.
