I am a vegetarian, and trust me there is plenty of protein to be had in the world without meat. If you do choose to eat eggs and dairy, there are a zillion ways to get protein there. Yogurts, cheese, and cottage cheese are very good sources.

If you choose not to eat eggs and dairy, you can still get protein from soy products, nuts, and beans and rice. The thing about beans and rice is that you need to eat them together, because that is what makes a complete protein. There are also lots of protein bars out there that are vegetarian friendly. There is also a lot of protein in some unexpected places -- whole wheat pasta, some breakfast cereals, and of course in the vegetables themselves. See if there is an organic or vegetarian section in your market and check out the foods offered there. There are many great choices. Maybe Dad could shop with you to see what's what.

What may also help you is to purchase a book like Vegetarian Cooking for Dummies. That helps you put together meals that are balanced to keep you healthy. I think you are incredibly wise to do research -- going into this without knowing what you are doing can make you sick. I read that for a 2000 calorie a day diet, reccomended for most healthy women, we need 50 grams of protein a day. That may be a little different for teens, so check it out! Pretty easy to keep up if you stay smart about it!
Good luck!

There are plenty of sources of protein. Don't let him hold you back from becoming a vegetarian. It if was me, i would say," look I don't care what you want me to do, it's great that you're concerned, but i am going to become a vegetarian, and you can't stop me," You have to be very set in your ways. If he still doesn't listen, go to a dietician, and talk to them about being a vegetarian, it's actually healthier, protein wise, to be a vegetarian.

Protein is in beans, eggs, nuts, peanuts, peanut butter and lots of other foods. Also there are meat substitutes with protein like tofu that can be cooked like meat or added to dishes.

There are lots of ways to get enough protein while following a healthy plant based diet.'

Beans, soy milk, soy beans, peanuts, peanut butter. Remember to take vitamines, and lots of them, if you don't you'll get sick, and run down. If you're still eating eggs and fish, those are good.

and who ever said "are you going to be a real vegitarian, and not eat dairy products either" well, just so you know, a "real" vegitarian in your words would actually be a vegan.

Buy soy meat it has the greatest taste. You could even fool your dad if you made him taco's with the soy taco meat. It is seasoned just like taco meat and the texture is even better than real meat. There isn't grease running down your arms when you eat a soy taco. Soy meat is loaded with protein.

Use imagination. DELICIOUS
