SVT is a result of an extra electric circuit in the heart, frequently related to an "aberrant pathway". If this pathway can be identified an ablation will likely result in total cessation of the dysrhythmia. The proceure is relatively low risk and the improvement in quality of life dramatic. People are so much happier after it.

Yep, had an ablation for SVT 6 weeks ago, and I'm very glad I had it. No SVT since then (and I was having daily runs of it). As heart ablations go, this is one of the most successful. SVt can be hell to live with, so an ablation is a very good option. I have absolutely no regrets.

SVT is often treated with ablation and very effectively too.
SVT stands for SupraVentricularTachycardia. Means that your rapid heartrate stems from an impulse above the level of your heart's ventricles, the ablation will block that impulse. It is the least invasive form of treatment for this problem and is usually quite effective. Trust your cardiologist and get the procedure.

Ablation therapy is one of the treatment for SVT or "supraventricular tachycardia"
in your case it is recommended that you have done sooner rather than later because of your underlying cardiomyopathy as well as heart failure, SVTs can have serious consequences ( namely life threatening arrythmias such as Ventricular fibrillation) in this setting and put strain on an already weakened heart.

I am a cardiac RN and I also had this procedure done about 10 years ago for SVT. It was a totally painless procedure with immediate results. With your other diagnoses, it is crucial that your heartrate stays within normal limits so it can pump as efficiently as possible---find a good electrophysiologist who's done lots of these, and go for it.

i have had it done 1 month ago. ablation is very effective espically in svt. because of the message channeling is easier to find to get rid of it.

I agree with all the above answers, especially KZ and Ms. Tee. I work in an electrophysiology lab, and also suggest finding an electrophysiologist with experience. Find someone who has been doing this for a few years, or has someone with experience who works with him.
