First of all what are the other components? unless you are getting married (and even then you may want to think twice) or going to graduate high school DO NOT wear a cumberbund.
150 - 200 is not enough unfortunately. This is a suit worn to impress, one that you may want to pull out a few times over the next few years
Unlike other suits you may buy for work or for the season a tux has to hold its style regardless of the trends so a couple tips
1) Avoid the flashy stripes, prints, colours, ect.
2) Avoid Peaked collars ( these tend to get bigger and smaller with the passing trend) go with a shawl collar instead they hold their style longer
3) You don't need to get a pleated shirt or collar tabs- just a very nice stiff white shirt with french cuffs (Kenneth Cole $75.00). Cuff links can be bought for $20.00 (think George Clooney in Oceans Eleven)
4) And this is the big one, spend the money, thats right spend it. This is an investment that will pay off. We have all seen the uncle in the cheap suits at the wedding. DON"T be him.
You don't have to spend $2000.00 to get a custom suit made. Get a GOOD off the shelf tux with nice weight material and have it altered for you by a GOOD mens tailor. This is a guys thing, don't go to some mall tailor who stiches hems all day.
Women get to go to the spa and get pampered, do yourself a favour and go to a good tailor. that $500/600 tux will look like a $2000.00 model by the time he is done, and you my friend will look great for the next 10 years.
hope this helps

Here are some pretty good prices on Tuxedos: http://www.amazon.com/gp/search?index=fashion-mens-clothing&tag=5742-20&keywords=tuxedo
As you will find on Amazon, whether its pants or jacket, most of the items are on sale which is a plus. It's all about buying at the right time and knowing where to buy it. The cost of the tuxedo will also rely heavily on brand and style.
Expect to pay at least $200+ for the entire suit. One thing you want to make sure when getting it online is to be able to know whether the tuxedo is sold as the entire outfit or just jacket or pants alone. Make sure you a either getting the full suit or just top/bottom. What you see in the picture doesn't mean you are getting it if not stated in the title.

You can rent if your not ready to purchase. Tuxedos are an investment so if you do intend to buy one expect to pay at least $100 up till $1,000 for a better quality made tux. I would go with the black suit and invest in a beautiful tie and you will get the results you want, ALSO YOU DONT LOOK LIKE EVERY OTHER GUY @ THE DANCE. When shopping for your tie ask for assistance from a store employee on which one to choose! GOOD LUCK! HAVE FUN @ THE BALL!

How much should a tuxedo cost to purchase? The best place to buy cheap Mens Tuxedo online is at Amazon.com who has a massive range to choose from at incredibly low prices.
http://www.amazon.com/Tuxedos/b?ie=UTF8&node=2476514011&tag=yah-clot-20
A complete tuxedo consists of six basic components: the jacket, trousers, waistcoat or cumberbund, tie, dress shirt, and shoes.
There are so many tuxedos to choose from that reach far beyond the traditional black-and-white "penguin suit." From flashy, bright-colored tuxes worn by young men at their high school prom to less formal wedding tuxedos that straddle the line between a tuxedo and a suit, men and women today have a range of tuxedo options.

The key in choosing the right tuxedo is to find the right tux style for the right occasion.

It all depends. The prices can range from about $50-$100, depending on where you go, and what style you want. I would say order it maybe 3 weeks in advance, but even further in advance in the spring and summer due to proms, weddings etc. Also, December is a fairly busy time, as many people may be renting tuxedos for holiday parties.

I would say you could get a tux for around $150 - $200.
Then you would need to purchase a shirt and the tie. $45 - $75.
However, you'd have a suit that fit you well, was comfortable,
was in your closet. It would only take 2-3 tmes renting and it would be paid for.
You just have to wash your shirt each time...and every so often get the suit drycleaned. If you're not hard on the suit with sweat, soil, and dirt.....that wouldn't be very often.
