Have you or someone you know ever contracted an STD?

I guess there really isno point to this question. I myself haven't hed sex yet, so I don't have one, but I know people with them. I was just curious as to how common they really were...because the media...like tv and stuff makes them seem very uncommon to tenagers like me, so I was wondering how wrong the movies were.

I have personally contracted two incurable STDs - genital herpes and HPV.

I got cervical cancer from my HPV when I was just 17 years old and got genital warts from it about 8 months ago.

My uncle also died of AIDS when he was only 33 years old. It's a terrible way to die.

Some STDs are very common like HPV and herpes. I'v read that about 80% of the world has cold sores (herpes simplex virus 1) and 1 in 4 women, and 1 in 5 men have genital herpes.

HPV is also very common. Approximately 20 million people are currently infected with HPV. At least 50 percent of sexually active men and women acquire genital HPV infection at some point in their lives. By age 50, at least 80 percent of women will have acquired genital HPV infection. About 6.2 million Americans get a new genital HPV infection each year.

So, basically, you want to know how common STDs are. It is estimated by the CDC that one in three americans have had, or will have an STD during their lifetime. The World Health Organization paints an even grimmer picture when they postulate that world wide every one of two will have or have had or currently have some sort of STD. In other words, IT IS COMMON.
Be smart, always use protection until you enter into a committed monogamous relationship. Devices like condoms and spermicidal gels don't completely eliminate the risk, but they do greatly reduce the risk of transmission.

I myself have gotten something as a teenager,I guess at that age you thnk other teens are "clean" and safe because they may not have lots of sexual experience. And some teens are uncomfortable about pressing the issue of having a partner get tested for STD's because the other person might get offended. This makes teens highly at risk. There are some bacterial STD"s that are passed from person to person because they show no symptoms. So there are people with them that dont even know it.

I know quite a few people that have or have had an STD. The scary fact is that it's probably more common than you'd think. I was shocked to learn that so many people i know, had contracted an STD before.

I have known several people. STDs are bad. Back in the old days, most of them were cured with a shot. Today there are things that you either die from, or live with for the rest of your life. Be careful when you become sexually active. People with STD's are not a minority. 1 out of every 3 of my friends either have one, or have had one.. that is not a good ratio.

Yes. You can have them with no symptoms & not even know it. My best advice to you when you do have sex, plz wear protection, or just dont do it...Abstinence is the only way to stay free of an STD. Protection is the 2nd best answer, but I've heard of people catching them even when they did wear protection.
