There is a particular part of the heart called the SA Node. The SA node creates an electrical impulse that travels through the heart and causes the heart to beat once. If an electrical impulse is created by another part of the heart, that is called an "ectopic beat." It is generally caused by an irritability of the heart muscle. Any number of things can cause this irritability.
The heart has four chambers. Two small chambers called "atria" and two large chambers called "ventricles." A "supraventricular ectopic beat" is a hearbeat that is caused by an ectopic impules that occurs somewhere above the level of the ventricles.
A "run" is a term that refers to a series of only ectopic beats with no beats from the SA node. This is usually not a good thing. Its good that you had no runs.
Basically the test said that in 24 hours, you had 5 heart beats that originated in a part of the heart that is not normal. That's probably not very serious, although it isn't normal. It may beed to be treated. You should talk to you doctor about whether anything should be done.
Any treatment would probably include finding the underlying cause of the ectopy and treating it.

Rare means there weren't very many. Isolated means one here and there, not more than one in a row(probably not more than one every couple of hours) Supraventricular means the beat originated someplace above the ventricles, but not at the
SA node (the typical starting point for a heart beat). ectopic means they were not typical. So you had a few unusal beats over a 24 hour period..

Best talk to a Cardiologist. In general this means that your hear muscle fibers above the ventricles (the lower 2 heart chambers) are firing for some reason when your heart is not. If this happened over a 24 hour period it is probably not a major issue; however, as I said you should talk to your physicians as to treatment needs.

a 24 hour moniter is like a recorder of everything your heart does in the time that you wear it. It includes an extensive reposrt that is sometime very hard to interpret. If your dr has reviewed it and has not given you any recommendations then it is fine. If you suspect your dr to be a total retard then get a copy of the report and have another dr look at it.

it means you are ok.
ectopia means there is a trigger for heart contractions besides the normal one. this could be dangerous when it completly takes
over from the normal heart pacemaker (atrio ventricular node)
ectopic beats are fairly common and are related to caffeine and stress and smoking although an exact cause is not known.
as long as there are no runs (consecutive beats taking over from the normal rhythm) i would say you are safe .
it helps to stay away from excess of coffe , smoking, allergy and cold medicines (antihistamines) and to do regular exercise.
also maryam ,they are quite common in young nervous women.
