Why not do a lobster boil outdoors for something fun & different. Set up picnic tables covered in brown butcher's paper. Use an outdoor turkey fryer for the cooking. In large pot combine water, beer & lobster boil. Add potatos & corn on the cob. After they boil a bit, add in lobster or crab & smoked sausage. The last 5 minutes add shrimp. Scoop onto covered tables & have your guests dig right in. For a small reception you can't beat the price!!

My 2nd wedding, I made my own wedding cake, and we bought all the food ourselves. We just had a small reception at our house with family and a very few friends. The ceremony took place outside.

If you don't intend to go all out with a formal wedding why not go with a theme ? For instance, a cowboy or country and western theme. Serve chili, nachos and burgers. Encourage guests to "dress western" and hire a line dancing instructor to get everybody up and dancing. Even people who might not feel confident or fit enough to dance otherwise, might be tempted to participate. Little craft store cowboy hats on the tables can hold mints or almonds. Flowers should be cheap....sunflowers and lots of wild flowers in buckets for centerpieces. You get the idea?,

Well, I can tell you what we did.

We rented a small historic chapel and used minimal decorations. We really wanted simplicity and elegance.
Then we rented a banquet room at a restaurant. We had a wedding cake and our guests each took home a potted violet. Our color was purple...I wore white and the cake was white.
It was the best day of my life!

If it were me, I would have a barbeque outside. Maybe a country band (if you like country) red checkered table cloths, sun flowers to decorate the table and a wash tub full of can drinks of your choice.
