if you think you may have a S.T.I. or S.T.D. do you have to go to a GUM clinic, or,can you use your G.P.??

to save the embarrasment of the clinic , can your own doctor look, take blood/urine tests etc. and prescribe appropriate medicine to sort problem out, or must you attend a clinic ????

you can go to see your gp but if he thinks you have an sti he will refer you to a g u m clinic. i understand it must be embarrassing but everybody at the clinic is in the same position as you so why put it off. your sexual health is more important. please go now. dont delay it any longer. best of luck.

You don't have to go to a clinic ever, as long as you have insurance or don't mind paying your private doctor. Your G.P can take care of any concerns you have and run all the necessary tests/treatments needed.

If this is a UK question...

You can go to either, but if you go to the GUM clinic it stays confidential from your GP and doesn't go on your medical records.

This can be in your favour, as when you go for life insurance or an employment medical or any situation where they might request your medical records, you still look squeaky clean.

Otherwise you could be penalised as it may be considered that you or your behaviours are a risk.

Its a specialised area buddy, GUM clinic's are geared up to these problems and to be honest G.P's often make big mistakes in this area. (no disrespect to G.P's!!!)Go down the clinic and get a full M.O.T. Good luck man

What ever one feels more comfortable doing. Yes, a private Dr. can take care of it but think of the ramifications if it goes untreated. Embarrassment is a heckuvalot easier to live with. There's a lot of non-embarrassed sick people walking around out there.
