The best I have found is to use DayQuil (at work) and NyQuil (to sleep better) . I buy the generics which are really cheap in the gel cap type.

1The most exciting news about the common cold is zinc. In a recent trial, zinc gluconate lozenges reduced the duration of symptoms from a common cold by about 3 days if started within the first 24 hours of symptoms. The dose used was 13.3mg of zinc every 2 hours while awake. This study was done in adults and, while it has shown favorable results, it will require further studies in order to determine optimal recommendations. Zinc is not recommended for children under age 13 unless suggested by your healthcare practitioner. Zinc lozenges are available from most grocery stores and pharmacies.
Vitamin C, if taken on a regular basis, can help reduce the duration of symptoms from a common cold. It does not prevent you from getting a cold, however, and starting it after you have a cold doesn't help.

Some ways you can help ease cold discomfort include:
saltwater drops in the nostrils to relieve nasal congestion (you can buy these - also called saline nose drops - at any pharmacy)
a cool-mist humidifier to increase air moisture
petroleum jelly on the skin under the nose to soothe rawness
hard candy or cough drops to relieve sore throat (for kids older than 3 years)
a warm bath or heating pad to soothe aches and pains
steam from a hot shower to help your child breathe more easily
But what about chicken soup? There's no real proof that eating this soothing, warm concoction can cure a cold, but sick people have been swearing by it for more than 800 years. Why? Chicken soup contains a mucus-thinning amino acid called cysteine, and some research shows that chicken soup helps control congestion-causing white cells, called neutrophils.
I hope this helps.

Buckleys and Advil..
You can avoid colds by not overstressing yourself and eating a proper diet. Do not oversleep or undersleep. Also remember sleep
is over rated while rest is under rated! The deeper you sleep the less hours of sleep you need! Try different hours of sleep and note how you feel your best! Not everyone is the same! Also herbal teas and herb medicines
are good to help prevent you getting colds. Also keep away from those that are contagious!

There is no cure for the common cold as the virus is constantly mutating in order to survive. Personally I find some relief comes from hot drinks, try honey and lemon, maybe even a bit of whisky in it to make it a 'hot toddie'.

Stay at home,in a warm atmosphere.Pure lemon juice mixed in a small glass of warm water with added honey is beneficial.Use a steam inhalant, with a few drops of Olbus oil,or just sprinkle a few drops on to a tissue and inhale. This helps to clear stuffy nose. Suck throat lozenges to ease a sore throat.Drink plenty of fluids. Good old fashioned, home made Chicken soup is very good. !!!

Take Astragalus twice a day, it will build up your immune system and colds will be a thing of the past! I used to get sick all the time, but after taking it for a year, I am rarely ever sick now.
