My parents and other people think I'm wasting food when I eat pizza because I don't eat the cheese,but I give it to my dogs so It's not really wasted,but they throw away so much leftovers and meat that has gone bad or gotten freezer burn.I was watching this infomercial and it said that the average american family throws away 600$ worth of food each year.The only thing that I've ever thrown away was a rotten banana.Isn't it hypocritical of them to think I'm wasting food when they throw away so much food without thinking twice about it?Does anyone have similar stories or situations to this?

I was just discussing that with one of my clients this evening. She is a transitional detox client and recently got a job at the local supermarket just the next place up. She brought back to the shelter a dozen $5.00 sandwiches, cheesecake and some friend chicken. They were going to just throw it in the dumpster. None of this food is bad- just past that date that they put on prepared food. they are maybe 1/2 a block up and instead of calling here to have us come pick up the wasted food they simply throw it away. Sad, huh?

Well, people that pick out toppings on pizza do annoy me. But, I completely understand where you're coming from. I just threw away two bananas that I let go brown. Plus, I've bought produce and never used it - the ones that require use within days - money wasted. Sounds like you're not that bad though. Throwing away leftovers is something to frown upon!

You're not wasting. Though I do find it a bit odd that you order a twelve dollar pizza and then only eat the bread and sauce. That's the cheap part. You can just slap some ragu on some french bread if you want that. Sounds more like a waste of money if you ask me.

Yes...my Mom drives me crazy because she buys food for an army and it's just her. Of course she ends up wasting it. I have serious issues with people wasting food. I don't think that you are wasting food because someone is still eating it! It's when it goes in the trash or disposal that makes me mad. Tell your family that they are being hypocritical and that at least your food that you "waste" is still be consumed.

i quite understand ur problem. it happens.ur parents are wasting loads of food and they call u the food waster.hell...that happens a lot.that is parents for you.My dad actually throws away clean bananaz coz he think they are rotten and my mom never stops him.my dad actually screams at me everyday for wasting vegetables and my food.hello?? seriously...my dad does that.lots of families waste food which they could have given to the dogs or the birds or whoever....

I think as a general rule, vegetarian and vegan people waste the least amount of food, possibly because they are more aware of the way they treat food, for various reasons.
