that is funny you should say that..you know ..White people love salsa..and chips and the hotter the better. But i have talked to people from Latin America and they dont eat that stuff as they call it..and i thought the would because they were of latin nature ..but I guess not..but i am from south Texas and these American cowboys down here they love real mexican food and they can spot a fake tortilla a mile away..you know the HEB kind..in plastic..the texture is what gives it away..the feel of a homemade tortilla.. so you cant fool these gringos down here..they love south texas..because hispanics never stop cooking..they come off of horseback they go to the stables where the horses are and there is Mr Salazar cooking carnitas for them on what we call El disko ...and he has hot corn totillas warmed up on the grill..for them and frijoles ala charra and ..steak sauce avacado chopped up with habenero and cold beer iced down for them...geez do you think their ever gonna leave....NOT!!! what ranch manager will take care of them like that.. Home sweet home..

I think it depends on the region. I grew up in Albuquerque and we ate both all the time. Nothing like a good bowl of chili on a cold day or a red or green chili sauce spread over an enchilada or eggs.
When drinking beer it was quite natural to have a bowl of jalapeno peppers and take a swig of beer and pop a pepper in your mouth. Sometimes it was difficult telling where your high came from the beer or the peppers (i.e., home grown and hot as h*ll).
As a footnote the cajuns in Southern Louisiana use tabasco like most people use ketchup. Hot? You bet. If you don't think so try a cactus flower shooter. Pour in two-thirds tequila then drop in one-third tabasco and down it. Burns going down and burns coming out. I have seen cajuns drown their breakfast with that stuff.

If you mean chile the food then I would say yes,it is a fully accepted food in The US by everyone. When new people come here from foreign countries and make the US their home ,they tend to bring their best traditions with them. Chile is one of the great favorites. We even have Chile cooking contests here. I don't think food goes by the race of people you come from but the part of the country you come from. Where I live in Missouri almost everyone of every color loves deep fried catfish usually on Fridays. As for Chili the Country, sorry never been there.

Well, I love peppers personally, but I would say the average American doesn't. That is based on the fact that no matter how spicy you order something, it is never spicier than mild (excluding some very few restaurants, and they never have habaneros). Then you go across the border to Mexico and have habanero soup, spicier than anything you will find in America excluding home grown peppers.

YES! I live in Mexico and they are all amazed by how much chile sauce I load on to my food and how hot I make the things I cook. I can tolerate hot stuff better than they can!

I cannot speak for everyone's taste...but here in South Texas we like our foods spicy! Especially chili with Habeneros, Jalapenos and Chile Peppers.
As for myself and my family, we like it hot.

Because salt and pepper and ketchup are boring. Because we get addicted to the chiles since they cause endorphins to be released in our brains when we eat them. Because we like to act macho and outdo our friends when we can eat hotter peppers than them
