i think it's a theoretical question being asked...not having to deal with whether or not the venus fly trap is poisonous.

you could technically say that all plants passively "eat" meat. when an animal dies and no one is around to clean it up, the remains decompose into the soil and the nutrients from it are a fertilizer for plants just like other animal byproducts. manure is a common component of plant fertilizer. everything "eats" everything else and no energy is lost. but i suppose it's the active carnivorous nature of the venus fly trap that makes it an exception to other plants.

since it is only gaining what other plants gain (through the death of animals), but does so actively by luring insects as prey, a vegetarian would have to label this act of killing insects as being "wrong" or "right" in their beliefs (though plants have yet to be known as conscious beings).

to sum it up, a vegetarian is defined as "one who feeds on plants," so yes, a vegetarian can eat a venus fly trap as long as all obvious animal remains are removed from the plant.

The implied assumption interior the question is that vegetarians are extreme of meat eaters. Why end with Venus fly capture? Why not castigate tigers and different carnivores for eating flesh? what's to vegetarians what anybody else, human, animal, or flora consume? They themselves avert meat. finished end. it is not constantly suited to generalize from the behaviour of a few vegetarians. no person's nutrition plan decision is a controversy of philosophical project. customarily Hindu religious leaders proscribe meat eating for those beginning religious practices. at the instant are not there many meat eating deeply non secular human beings in all religions?

if there was an edible plant that consumed meat, it would depend on the individual vegetarian's ideals.

BTW, most carnivorous plants eat bugs as a secondary source of energy to photosynthesis and/or parasitism.

Basically soil has a composition of some products that result from the breakdown of organic compounds...so if you think of it that way....all plants eventually eat something that used to be a meat. If you look at it simplistically.

A Venus Fly Trap Plant is poisonous to eat and it is the only eating plant, so dont think it is possible.
