because, since my wife got it, I seem to have come down with a case and so have all the guys at work. I don't think this runs in my family, but my mom and dad died in a car crash before I was born.

These viruses are not a genetic disorder.
You get both of these viruses by sex, and direct skin to skin contact (herpes). You can also be born with these viruses if the mother has either one. I've read chances are less than 1% of a baby contracting herpes by being born to a mother than has it though.
Also, the only way for your wife to have spread it to all the guys at work is she had to have had sex with all of them. Herpes and HIV are not airborne, like a common cold.
Also, I don't understand how your parents died BEFORE you were born. That doesn't make sense.

No these diseases can not be spread around in the air like the flu. HIV and Herpes can only be spread through sexual intercourse. HIV can be passed on to children, but these infants do not survive that long to spread it to others like a hereditary thing. So if all of your guy co-workers have got it too, then you might want to question your wife who all she has been sleeping with.

Yes herpes is spread very easily. It is a Shedding virus, you can spread it before you even have symptoms of an active outbreak. kissing, touching yourself where you have the outbreak occurring and not washing before you touch other people or items, handshaking etc... Sharing utensils, cups etc... HIV spread through sensual/sexual contact, or contact with body fluids.

If You Use Condom, your Less likely to get HIV, Aids, Pregrency,or STD's.
Use Common Sense while having Sexual Intercourse.

o yes it can surely be spread - by towels, cigarettes shared, bottles, cups, kisses, oral/genital sex, bedpillows and sheets, etc. Usually if one person has it say a husband then the wife has a good chance of getting it. It may be on the face or genitals, or even (very bad) in the eyes or in the throat and organs. It is not to be fooled with.

definitely it spreads by personal contacts. herpes can spread even by touch,kiss,cloth sharing,common towel uses but HIV can't be spread by these varients,it spreads only by sex,blood transfusion (contaminated) ,infected syrringes(as in drug users), blood contact
so mechanism of spread of both disease are somehow different

Yeah, when you have HIV or Herpes and have sex, your chanes of spreading it are high, especially if protection breaks.
