As the heart is called cardium, the infection of its coverings which lie all around it is called PERICARDITIS. Infection of the heart per se is called MYOCARDITIS, and the infection of the internal valves of the heart is termed ENDOCARDITIS (Infectious Endocrditis).
In Pericarditis, usually some inflammation fluid collects between the outer covering and the heart, which give rise to the features described by you, except the hair loss. Hair loss can start in any chronic disease but starts getting better as the health improves.

infection in the lining around the heart is called pericarditis. tamponade is something different though. I am hoping he is seeing a doctor for these symptoms

The condition is called PERICARDITIS....it is an infection of the pericardial sac which surrounds and contains the heart...and the vessels leading to and from it.
