My 3 year old daughter had sleep apnea. She snored like a freight train, slept restlessly waking several times a night. Suffered from dry mouth as she had never breathed thru her nose. She was always sleepy during the day.
2 months ago she had her tomsils and adnoids removed and "hey presto" we have a new daughter. Worked like magic.
Hope this helps.

Usually a doctor will send you to a sleep specialist to test for types of apnea when you come in and complain of very low quality of sleep, even though you think you're falling asleep and staying asleep. People with sleep apnea can wake up thousands of times a night, and you need to get all stages of sleep to feel fully rested the next morning.

You should go to a sleep clinic and have them observe you overnight. Do you stop breathing when sleeping? If so, your partner/room mate will hear you stop breathing and suddenly start breathing again. Sometimes, the period can be longer than a minute. The lack of breathing can occur hundreds of times a night so you wake up exhausted.
Get yourself tested if you even suspect you have it. It is treatable.
Good luck.

If you live alone, waking up with dry mouth or out of breath frequently might be a sign. If you have a partner, they will know. You will snore a lot and occasionally breathing will be interrupted while asleep. If you are overweight and over 40, your chances of having it increase.

Daytime sleepiness even though you spent 6-8 hours in bed. Does your partner say you snore real loud or have bouts of no snoring followed by more loud snoring. Are you overweight.

Julia, your doctor will have you tested but if you are extremely tired all the time from not sleeping well it can affect so many parts of your health and your life.
