I have herpes, but have not been able to get pregnant yet. I have talked in depth with my gyne and my fertility dr about delivery options with herpes. They both told me that as long as you do not have an active outbreak, it is safe to deliver vaginally. If there is any question though, they will deliver by cessarian.

I have had genital herpes for over 5 years but I have not had a baby yet. I have talked to my doctor and done a lot of research about it though. I've read that less than 1% of babies born to mothers with genital herpes actually contract the virus from the mother. Herpes is passed to the baby when it is going through the birth canal and when the mother is currently having and outbreak, other than that it is usually safe to have a normal birth. Still, many mothers choose to have a C-section to avoid this.

When I have a baby within the next few years I would like to have a normal birth. I plan on talking to my doctor more when the time comes and if I have to I will have a C-section for the baby's health.

Usually complications have more to do with the eyes. Nowadays, there are medications that can be used to prevent harm. Usually some drops in the baby's eyes.

Are you taking Valtrex. It can seriously reduce your outbreaks and chances of spreading it to others. See the darn commercial for it everyday. Hey, and whataya know?? All the advertised bombardment has come in handy.

make sure that your doctor knows that you have herpes so that they can plan for a c-section if needed.
