the average days?

it depends on the progress of their condition. they do tests on the patients to see if he/she is going to be able to breathe on her own. they do the NIF test (negative inspiratory force) and the vital capacity test to see if he/she is going to be able to inhale adequate amount of air in. weaning a patient off the ventilator is not done forcibly. they look at his/her progress and that is when they determine if he's a good candidate for weaning.

That depends upon their physical condition and also how long they were on the ventilator. What they will try and do is keep turning it down a little at a time, and make sure they are adjusting ok.

Hope that helps! Good luck, your in my thoughts and prayers.
(I'm assuming that you have a loved one on a ventilater)

depends on the age of the patient and their condition. They shouldn't be taken off too soon if their lungs are too weak. They actually do wean people off. In my kids, it could take a day or several days. something I'm too familiar with :(

There is no average or magic number. It all depends on the patients overall health, how strong their respiratory muscles are and the condition/disease process which resulted in mechanical ventilation.

That depends on what is keeping them on the vent in the first place. If it is a respiratory related disease, then the person wont wean from the vent until the disease is resolved, if it is cardiac or a sepsis issue, then they wont come off the vent until those issues are resolved.

They don't using wean people off. It depends on how well they can breathe on their own. It their breathing appears strong enough, it will be removed.
