Neither. You get a ribbon or a trophy. The pig goes back home. He may eventually get slaughtered, but it isn't because of the contest.

Both my sons won a greased pig contest. We finished raising them and had them butchered. Definitely saved on the food bill.

If you're wondering whether to feel sorry for the pigs in a greased pig contest, you should be.
Those pigs, whether they do get slaughtered and roasted afterwards, are absolutely terrified in those contests. Sick people think it's entertainment to watch pigs get roughly handled and abused in them.
Please. Don't support greased pig contests.

Those that aren't caught go on to regionals and then nationals. LOL!
The ones that are caught are roasted on a spit as a warning to the others.

I wish!

Actually, the ones used for these chases are young piglets that go back to the farm, where they grow up to meet their final destiny.

Which usually IS ...

... well, ...

Pork chops and bacon.
