Hepititis C is caught through blood contact. If you share needles or blood transfusions or from childbirth, if the mother is infected. It is uncomonly spread through sex, about 2 percent catch it from sex if no condom is used. Always use a condom. You should get more information from your sexual health clinic.

I am a Hep C survivor, 3 years sustained response post treatment. I did a great deal of research and have to agree with gigglingwillow's answer, which matches my own research and experience. You have to be holding your mouth right and have sex during interplanetary alignment while nineteen high priests shave billygoats before you will get HCV from sex, unless you have some sort of genital injury or STD that allows blood to blood contamination, which is extremely unlikely. There will be more important issues if you start dating her and form a long term relationship. Its much more dangerous to share razors, nail clippers, or anything else that can draw blood. Use a condom if you are uncomfortable. I did a lot of research and while sexual transmission is considered somewhere between highly unlikely and nearly impossible, I never once came across any reports or discussion of a case sexual transmission with a condom.
I had several relationships while I had HCV and they all got tested and they were all negative. Sometimes people think they got it from one another when they actually both had it before they ever met.
If you like this woman it would be a shame to let this come between you. Showing her a little support and being educated about it should score you points, because she is probably self conscious and would appreciate any effort you make to understand her situation.

There is no cure for hepatitis C.
Sexual exposure to blood
Although Hepatitis C Virus (HCV) is not a sexually transmitted disease (STD), transmission can occur during unprotected sexual contact if the sexual activity involves blood-to-blood contact. It is important to note that the sexual spread of HCV is due to blood-blood contact rather than the presence of the virus in vaginal fluid or semen.(Source-Wikipedia)
Hepatitis C infection is caused by hepatitis C virus (HCV). Persons who may be at risk for hepatitis C are those who:
Have or have had sex with multiple partners
Have or have had sex with a person who has hepatitis C
Share personal items, such as toothbrushes and razors, with someone who has hepatitis C (Source-MedlinePlus)
It can also be passed on through sexual contact, as the virus can be present in bodily fluids such as semen. (BBC News-Health)
Please see the webpages for more details on Hepatitis C.

ok, i'm not studying all of that. yet, I do date outdoors of my race, to respond to your question. even with the undeniable fact that, courting outdoors of my race hasn't ever been a functional decision, this is purely that when I meet a guy that I have chemistry with race would not remember. i imagine that in case you flow in certain searching therefore far outdoors of your race you're purely specializing in it too a lot. No race is freed from undesirable men, and in case you flow searching for a token trophy guy of yet another race, you could run into disappointments once you locate that he's only a guy like all different. My boyfriend's Asian as well (jap) yet i do not concentration on it. i did not make a "change" from black men. i'm with my guy because i love him. If I had fallen in love with a black guy formerly I met him i'd be with the black guy. Love is all that concerns. choose a guy through the content of his personality, not the colour of his epidermis. you do not desire every person to guage you or stereotype you for being a black lady, do you? Why choose a guy for being a black guy?

PLEASE do NOT listen to the above posters where hcv and transmission during sex are concerned!!
HCV is a blood to blood transmission only. The risk of getting HCV via sexual intercourse is extremely low. Studies being done say the occurance of transmitting HCV are about .06%, however, this study was done on monogomous couples and chances are, the transmission were more from household exposure, ie, sharing a toothbrush or razor that had blood on it. You would of had to cut yourself or make your gums bleed. So this would definately knock the transmission down via sexual intercourse by half or .03%.
You have a higher risk getting shaved at your barbers!
I dated a good friend of mine off and on and inbetween other men for over 14 years and not ONE person has HCV! So that right there would tell you something!
My best friends husband has the worst genotype at 1a and Cindy (my best friend) does not have HCV and they have been together since they were teens! She does not have HCV.
Don't let others ignorance scare you away from a potentially good thing. If your not sure about it, tell your girlfriend that you would like to visit her doctor with her the next time. Have him explain it. Infact, I am so confident in what I am writing you can take this letter with you and the doctor will say I am exactly right!
Now, since I've gotten that out of the way, HCV mimicks so many other diseases (many of them!) Have you been tested?
Over 4 million in the United States are infected!
*ONCE again, on the Pamela Anderson issue....Pamela blames Tommy for her infection. They shared a tatoo needle. Pam did not get it through sexual intercourse UNLESS she is just a very nasty girl and allows for some pretty disgusting sexual induendo's that had to of been pretty rough...rough enough to make her bleed. The question here is look how many sugeries she has had. She herself probably had HCV long before Tommy.
In 1998 Tommy was in jail for something and they do test for diseases like HCV. He did not have it. Chances are Pamela gave herself HCV through sharing drug untensils or surgery, and gave Tommy HCV through that shared tatoo needle! (unless there were drugs involved too!)
Ie, sharing a straw to snort cocaine, or needles for that matter....
Pamela Anderson is a lousy role model for HCV Advocacy.
she will die from HCV because she refuses to believe she has it!
**As for the poster who said there is no cure for hcv! I along with several multiple thousands in the United States alone are HCV free because of Antiviral chemotherapy. I am going on post 5 years and my doctor said a few years ago, If I did not relapse within 2 years after consider myself cured!
I AM CURED!

HCV is not a "true" STD because there has to be infected blood going into someone elses blood stream. The chances of getting HCV are almost non existent through sexual intercourse.
Ignore the others that are negative...they do not know what they are talking about.
I agree with giggling.willow!

Hep C is transmitted from blood to blood contact. 3% of Hep C cases are transmitted through sexual contact, 5% are passed from mother to child during pregnency. The majority of Hep C positive infections today are through practices such as IV drug use using dirty needles where blood is transferred from an infected person to an uninfected person. As always, safe sex practices are always best.

That would depend on your level of intimacy. The best thing that you can do is to educate yourself. Search for information on-line or go to your local library. You can also get information from the local health department. Good Luck!
