If a person has cold sores that doesn't mean they will develop genital herpes, but, they can pass it to someone else, which can cause genital herpes for that person.

Cold sores and genital herpes are two different strains of the herpes virus. They are both herpes, but they affect different areas. If a person has cold sores that doesn't mean they have genital herpes and vice versa. I have personally had genital herpes for over 5 years and I have never had cold sores.

If a person does have cold sores though, it is possible for them to spread it to another person by kissing them on the lips (which would cause cold sores) or giving them oral sex (which could cause genital herpes).

Both herpes simplex virus 1 and 2 can cause genital herpes and cold sores. Typically herpes simplex virus 1 is cold sores while herpes simplex virus 2 is genital herpes.

Yes, there isn't any. Herpes is caused by a virus. Actually, there is little cure for viruses nowadays. The only thing that you can generally do in the case of a viral infection is strengthen the immune system and hope it fights it off. Not with Herpes, the immune system can't win against it. Thus you only get to treat the symptoms. Once you're infected, it stays with you for life. So don't get infected.

Personal experience. I have had genital herpes for over 5 years.

any of the herpes viruses HSV1 or HSV2 will cause genital herpes.

As this infection is fairly widespread, especially in sexually active individuals, it is important that you understand more about it and know how to prevent it. The common sites that get affected are lips (cold sores) and genital area (genital herpes). Both the viruses can affect lips and genital areas. But virus type 2 rarely causes active sores in the oral area while virus type 1 can cause herpes in the genital area.

Oral herpes simplex virus is also known as HSV I since it was identified first. The HSV II that is associated with genital herpes has a slightly different genome, and therefore is a different serotype. But both can infect either area. A substantial portion of the HSV infections that show up in the genital area type out to be HSV I and, as you may expect, many in the oral area, when typed, show up as HSVII.

The poor dumb viruses don't even know where they are, or care, so long as it is a mucosal membrane, and they have a nerve fiber nearby to latch onto.

So, in a word, YES.

cold sores are herpes, therefore the person already has herpes, don't have penis to lip contact, or vagina to lip contact or lip to lip contact until the cold sore is gone, really. Cold sores can also be brought on by stress and citrus.
