Generally bad things. You may have slept funny and the numbnes will go away within a matter of several minutes. This is no big deal if it happens on occasion. If you have been numb for a while, as in more than a day, you absloutely must see your doctor or a go to a neurologist, if you can go without a referral.

several factors can cause numbness of just one side of the body. the most common cause is stroke or cerebrovascular accident, wherein a certain blood supply on certain parts of the brain was blocked. it could also be caused by a brain tumor on one side of the cerebral hemisphere. It could be due to a demyelinating disease, but rare.

Sometimes that's one of the first symptoms of Multiple sclerosis. Go to a doctor.

It can also be something as simple as a pinched nerve.

Don't get upset and think the worst before you get to the Dr.
