I am a insulin dependent diabetic which is bad enough but a few weeks ago i was diagnosed with anemia and because of that my potassium level also dropped which causes terrible muscle cramps. i am usually a very upbeat person but i am finding it hard to cope with all this pain and go to class and work. so does anyone with the same/similar problems want to talk or any other nice person want to talk and help me cheer up?

Sorry for the dx, before I read this, I was thinking you'd need a blood work up hepatic function panel, to be specific and a CBC cause anemia and potassium are things also related to failing kidneys. Drink plenty of water, this will help with your potassium, you will want to get an iron level check because you don't want to start iron for anemia if your iron level is good. A doctor should tell you whether to take iron or not. A doctor is really the only one who can answer your questions, call and leave a message with his or her advice nurse pronto. Things will get better. both my niece and nephew got juvenile diabetes before they were 10 years old. Ya just need to get good education about it and good support, they are both doing awsome, their mom helps them so much, and they help each other too. I hope you find support.

You need to really sit down and talk to your doctor about this. These symptoms can be of big concern and mean eventual renal failure (kidney failure). You really need to see a doctor that specializes in diabetes and he/she may refer you to a Nephrologist (kidney doctor). Believe me, if there is anything you can do to stop this progression do it now as dialysis is no laughing matter.

Anemia is not related to serum K levels. Do you have Addison's disease?
