I'm throwing a baby shower for my sister-in-law. Do you have any good recipes for finger foods and appetizers? I don't want any in a baby theme or anything like that. Just normal easy to make food. I'm looking for something different than what we usually get at these type of thing
The things I have so thought of so far are , pinwheels, cheeseball, and chicken salad sandwiches. I have the recipe for these. I need recipes for something different.

Thanks everyone!

Make Pigs in a Blanket using cocktail wienies but add some gourmet cheese to take them up a notch.

Or try sweet and sour meatballs. You'll need a crockpot. Meatballs are easy. Mix burger and ground sausage, breadcrumbs and egg, mix together and brown them up in some oil olive infused with garlic, drain well and put into a crock pot. For the sauce, heat in a pot on the stove one jar of chili sauce, a squeeze of lemon juice and grape jelly, about 3/4 of a regular size jar. Heat these up and pour over the meatballs in the crockpot. Yum

Have a great shower.

ok, really good and delicate sandwiches like watercress and turkey on rye, and make them into really small squares and cut the crusts off. Mmmmmmm.

or it's easier to just do cocktail shrimp. Buy a whole bunch at costco, they have already-made platters you can have them on. or you can be fancy and put them into little individual dishes, like put them around the edge of a martini glass, and put the sauce in the middle.

be sure to have little pastries there too, those are always good. each of them no bigger than you finger. and also if you can have a lot of different teas there, if you like tea.

deviled eggs i suppose, though they are really bad for you. i don't know if this is one of the things that you say are "always at these type of things" but i thought i might as well suggest.

oh also try mango salad. it's just diced mango, and a little diced onions and a little diced tomato, and salt and pepper and maybe some lime juice. I don't know exactly how much of each, but experiment with the ingredients and you'll find something you like.

bruschetta. little pieces of bread, but a really skinny bread so each peice has its own crust. then you put olive oil on it, but just a little, and you toast it in your toaster oven. while it's doing that, you dice some tomatoes and add olive oil balsamic vinegar, salt, pepper, and basil .you can also add that good italian meat i forget what ti's called but it's really good and salty and thin. you have to let that sit for a while, then you put it on your toast and put parmasan cheese on top. people in my family make this all the time and it is so good.

anyways, congratulations to your sister-in-law.

here is something easy, and different.
try...hummus with strips of pita bread cut up for dipping. its a healthy snack, taste good, and can be presented in a very pretty way. make a little dip in a circle around the plate of hummus, so there is a little room all around to drizzle olive in it. then sprinkle some sumac...if you dont have sumac you can use paprika, but just a little, then garnish with a few olives, some pickle slices, a lemon wedge, or some parsley. makes a very impressive looking dish, and its so easy.
take a can of garbanzo beans, drain about half the water
use about 3 tablespoons of tahini...sesame paste...you can get at almost any store
about 2 teaspoons of lemon juice
garlic powder, to taste...i like a lot so i would use at least a teaspoon if you like it garlicy
put it in the food processor, or blender, until smooth
to make it a little smooter, i add about 2-3 tablespoons of plain yogurt.
smooth it out on a plate, and cut up pita bread.......bon appetite!

These are super tasty and easy to make. It's my version of pizza rolls!

You will need:
mini tortillas (about 6 inches)
pizza sauce
mozz cheeze
pepperoni
garlic powder (optional)
toothpicks

What you do:
lay out tortillas and spread a tablespoon of sauce onto each one. Then put cheese and pepperoni down the center and sprinkle with garlic if desired. Then roll each one up and stab a toothpick through it to hold together. Rub a little oil on each one for better browning. Place on a sheet pan and bake at 450 for about 7 minutes or until golden brown and the cheese is melted.

The best part about these is that you can make them the day before (without baking) and refrigerate. Then all you have to do is bake them before the party.

I have a awsome recipe. I have served it at very formal events to friends just getting together for drinks. They are a big hit!!

Tracey Q's Water Chestnut snacks

2 can (284ml) WHOLE water chestnuts
1 package bacon – cut strips in half
toothpicks

Sauce
¾ cup ketchup
1 cup brown sugar
1 tsp vinegar
1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce

Mix together

Wrap water chestnuts in bacon. Use toothpick to secure bacon. – Bake at 350 until cooked – drain excess fat. (I think I usually let it cook for about an hour – stirring about every 15 minutes. I prefer the bacon well done and that way you can drain off most of the fat.)

Once the bacon is cooked and fat has been drained. Cover with sauce and cook for about 30 minutes.

(I have done the wrap and cook bacon portion the night before – refrigerated and cooked with the sauce the next day)

Serve Hot! Enjoy!

Scallops wrapped in Bacon.

Wrap a raw piece of bacon around the scallop and place a toothpick trough it to hold it in place. Place on a cookie sheet and bake in oven.

How about deviled eggs, marinated mushrooms or pita chips?

DEVILED EGGS

INGREDIENTS:
6 eggs
1/2 teaspoon paprika
2 tablespoons mayonnaise
1/2 teaspoon mustard powder

DIRECTIONS:
Place eggs in a pot of salted water. Bring the water to a boil, and let eggs cook in boiling water until they are hard boiled, approximately 10 to 15 minutes. Drain eggs, and let cool.
Cut eggs in half, lengthwise. Remove the egg yolks and mash them together in a small mixing bowl. Mix in the paprika, mayonnaise, and dry mustard. Spoon mixture into the egg shells, cool and serve.

MARINATED MUSHROOMS

INGREDIENTS:
1/2 cup olive oil
4 large garlic cloves, halved lengthwise
2 pounds small mushrooms, stems trimmed
1/2 cup chopped fresh Italian parsley
1 1/2 cups dry white wine
1/4 cup fresh lemon juice
2 tablespoons plus 2 teaspoons
red wine vinegar
6 whole cloves
2 bay leaves

DIRECTIONS:
Heat oil in heavy large skillet over medium-low heat. Add garlic; sauté until golden, about 6 minutes. Discard garlic. Increase heat to medium-high. Add mushrooms and parsley; sauté until mushrooms are golden, about 8 minutes. Reduce heat to medium-low. Stir in remaining ingredients. Cover and simmer 5 minutes. Season with salt and pepper. Cool to room temperature. Transfer to container; cover and chill until cold. (Can be made 2 days ahead. Keep chilled.) Drain mushrooms before serving.

Makes 12 Servings.

PITA CHIPS

INGREDIENTS:
12 pita bread pockets
1/2 cup olive oil
1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
1 teaspoon garlic salt
1/2 teaspoon dried basil
1 teaspoon dried chervil

DIRECTIONS:
Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C).
Cut each pita bread into 8 triangles. Place triangles on lined cookie sheet.
In a small bowl, combine the oil, pepper, salt, basil and chervil. Brush each triangle with oil mixture.
Bake in the preheated oven for about 7 minutes, or until lightly browned and crispy. Watch carefully, as they tend to burn easily!
