Unless it personally effects them, I don't think anyone really cares to research the difference between vegetarian and vegan. That is true though. People do confuse the two. And there is a huge difference. I'm vegetarian, and my BF is a vegan. I gotta have my cheese!

There is only one level of vegetarian we either are or we aint.A true vegetarian eats only that which grows in vegetation. Therefore milk cheese and eggs can not be vegetarian.. The word vegan has just become a popular word about 10 years ago to divide those who gave up eating cheese and dairy from those who think themselves to be vegetarian.l've been a true vegetarian since 1987 19 years l eat only that which grows in vegetation.l've never called myself vegan but in todays terms l guess they could call that.

Some people don't know what the difference is between a vegan and Vegetarian. I didn't know either before I learned in my Culinary class. There is actually different types of vegans too.
Vegan- eat only fruits and vegis.
Lacto Vegan- eat fruits and vegis, and also dairy products.
Ovo Vegan- eat fruits and vegis, and also eggs
Lacto Ovo Vegan- eat fruits and vegis, and also dairy products and eggs

I've been a vegetarian all my life and have never felt deprived. I know all the restaurants that will accommodate me and what I can do to alter the things on the menu that are not vegetarian. I do NOT eat salads for every meal. I love food. I certainly don't starve, and I can eat out almost anywhere. (The obvious exception being a steak house, though I did go to one once with a group... I managed to find an appetizer I could eat)
Expect it to be different. Accept it as different. It will not be the same as an omnivorous lifestyle, but it can be just as great a life.

They just don't know.
Most American people eat meat, fish and dairy.
Some people think vegetarian means only eating chicken and fish of course this is not true.
It is true that vegan means on dairy or eggs at all and a regular vegetarian can eat these things.
People who are close to vegetarian and vegetarian generally are more healthy because they don't get the fat in meat, fish and poultry in their diet.
Best wishes

To those of us who are not one, vegan just sounds like a really stupid, made-up word. Vegetarian SHOULD be just what the name implies, and that would be you vegans. Why don't you make all the ovo-lactos, and whatever otehr variations there are, make up THEIR own word, and keep vegetarian for people who don't eat anything else?

most people are not vegetarians nor are they vegans...people have a philosophy they live by, why learn of other options and other peoples ways if it's not effecting them? It's just ignorance you'll find it everywhere even if your not looking..learn to deal.
