Oral herpes and cold sores are the exact same thing. They are usually caused by herpes simplex virus 1, but can also be cause by herpes simplex virus 2 (this is more rare though). Herpes simplex virus 2 is typically genital herpes.
And yes, cold sores can be pretty painful. If a person has medication such as Valtrex they can heal within a few days.

Herpes simplex is a virus that causes blisters to form on your lips and on the inside of your mouth. These blisters, called cold sores, develop into painful ulcers. Your gums become swollen and deep red, and often the tongue is furred. You may have a fever and feel generally unwell. The older you are, the more severe the infection. In young children, the initial attack is usually so mild that it may pass unnoticed.
After the infection has cleared up, the virus lies dormant. Later, another infection, or exposure to sunshine or wind, reactivates it. This causes a blister to form that bursts and forms an encrusted cold sore on the edge of your lip or somewhere else near your mouth.
Mild cases of the first infection need no treatment. In severe cases your physician may advise you to rest, take aspirin if you have a fever, and use a mild mouthwash.
Colds sores generally clear up uneventfully. However, if the blisters are especially painfull, your physician may prescribe a medication that you can apply to the sores to ease the pain as the sore heals.

Cold sore or herpes simplex are the same thing. Yes, the are often painful and very contagious. So if you have one don't be kissing or drinking after someone. Sometimes the doctor will prescribe a medicine, but I have always found the medicines they prescribe make them worse. For me the over the counter medicine-Herpicin is the only one that works to lessen the pain and duration of the cold sore. Also, if you touch it wash your hands immediately, you can spread them to your eyes, ears and nose etc...(any moist orafus)

I got diagnosed with genital herpes (type 2) about 7 yrs ago, when I was still in college and had a stupid one-night stand. I know a lot of young ladies will say this, but I swear I had never done that sort of thing before. I just made a huge mistake that one time and suddenly it seemed like I was going to have to live with the implications for the rest of my life. The worst part was feeling I could never date guys again. After all, who wants to go out with someone that has sores round her private parts? But since a friend shared this movie https://tr.im/1UgGA everything got better.
Not only was I able to eliminate all traces of the herpes virus from my system in less than 21 days, but I was also able to start dating again. I even met the guy of my dreams and I'm so blessed to write that just last week, in front of everyone in a busy cafe, he got down on one knee and proposed to me!! This system gave me back the opportunity to be happy and experience true love. Now I want to help you too by sharing this with the World.

No difference. Cold sores are caused by the herpes virus and are contagious. They are also painful & can be transmitted by oral sex to sexual organs. Be careful & don't use anyone else's lipstick or kiss anyone until it is healed.
