flax is a fairly crunchy type of tiny seed.... you can buy them in the store, as is (in a bag); and can be sprinkled on cereal, put in muffins, added to almost any type of grain, added to yoghurt, etc.
The best way to get your sugar levels under control are:
1) cut WAY down on your carbs, (i.e. sugar and sugar containing products, like soda)
2) cut down on grains, bread and pasta and when you eat them, ONLY eat brown grains (not white)
Remember grains, pasta and bread turn to sugar. What stops that is the amount of fiber in them. The more fiber, the better.
You don't have to make the transition all at once..... just cut out SUGAR. Splenda is a good substitute, as is 'stevia', an herb - you can get at GNC, etc.

Don't know about flax. I do know about cinnamon, bitter melon, gymnema sylvestre, chromium nicotinate, vanadyl sulfate, fenugreek, nopal cactus, and bilberry. Read more:
For type I and type II diabetics (and those who could potentially become diabetic)...
I've found a wonderful book that will help you control your diabetes and minimize or even eliminate the complications. Some folks who became diabetic due to poor diet and obesity are effectively cured by following the advice in this book. I'm a type II (inherited), but it helps all types, especially those who became diabetic due to poor eating habits. It's by an author who has really done his homework, Patrick Quillin, Phd. It's called, "The Diabetes Improvement Program". I have tried his suggestions and found them to be very helpful. I have no complications whatsoever and my blood sugar levels are quite stable. Yes, I still have to take Metformin (Glucophage) daily, but it's the minimum dosage (500mg) and I only have to take it twice a day. I have been off Metformin for as much as a week, but this was with vigorous exercise. Many, what I call, non-hereditary type IIs (those that don't have a close relative who had it) have gotten off medication completely, just with diet, exercise, and supplements. So, in some instances, it most certainly can be 'effectively' cured. Read more about it here:
http://www.diabetesimprovement.com/
The book explains what's going on in our system and what to do about it. It's really easy and inexpensive. It's basically diet, supplements and exercise. For example, did you know that cinnamon helps blood sugar absorption? It also controls cholesterol and triglycerides. This is according to the USDA:

For men: Are you suffering from erectile dysfunction? I was. Yes, WAS. Now that everything's under control, I'm able to have nearly normal sex again. I've also put together a little webpage highlighting some of the things I've learned here:

Here's another great health site with all kinds of general health information:

Flax can be in seed form oil form or pill. Its good for a lot of different things. If you have a whole foods or other natural supply store get the Barleen's brand of flax seed oil is the best because the fresher the better it is also sold in capsuled form. The oil has a kinda nutty flavor and you can use in on salad as a dressing mixed with vinegar.

Flax won't help with lowering blood sugar but it will help in other aspects:
2 tablespoons of flaxseed meal has 4 grams of fiber. This will aid in the drop of bad LDL cholesterol.
Flaxseed contains high levels of lignans (thats a natural plant estrogen) These can maintain breast and colon health by binding substances that might promote unchecked cell growth. 2 tablespoons of flaxseed meal has the same amount of lignans as about 30 cups of fresh broccoli.
Flax also contains the plant version of Omega 3. One serving of flaxseed meal contains 2400 mg of Omega 3

Forget anything you have ever been told about Diabetes.
And get this - it has nothing to do with insulin, exercise, diet or anything else you've heard in the past. It's all based on latest breakthrough research that Big Pharma is going Stir Crazy to hide from you.

It isn't a herb, it is a seed that people supplement to get their EFA's Essential fatty acids, it is high in Lineolic Acid and Lignans. You have to eat it ground up becasue the body cannot digest it as a whole and you will get no benefits. As far as Diabetes, I do not know. Sorry

Flax seed oil is taken more for the omega 3 oil than anything else and it will not effective for diabetes. Flax seed oil is better for "Brain power" and reducing inflamation. For better heart conditioning you can take or should take fish oil for their omega 3 content. Fish oil is better than flax seed oil for heart and circulatory situations. Think of it as Flax for the head and fish for the heart. Diabetes will not be affected by omega 3, 6 or 9's. Diabetes will be affected by reducing your carbohydrate intake than by flax or fish oils.
