family and a cake

The party is about your baby. What does he like? Ponies? Have a guy bring out a pony wheel for pony rides. Does he like sponge bob? Rent a costume and put a friend in it. Try to build the party around what he likes, I am assuming your baby is a boy from the sports theme, if not I apologize.

Make sure to have a personal size cake for him he can dig into. What fun is a birthday party if you cant eat your cake with your hands? I am 41 and still like to d that :)

Just make it his day. As long as he is having a wonderful time that's all that matters.

Party stores have themes for just 1 yr old's birthday parties. They are usually blues clues, winnie the pooh, elmo, and a generic boy /girl theme. I went with the Winnie the Pooh for my son's first birthday.

A theme is meant to be fun for the birthday person, right? Your one year old is probably too young to have anything he's just CRAZY about, so balloons, a cake and presents alone will thrill him to pieces.

They're not going to remember it, even when they're 2. Best to throw a classical birthday with lots of happiness put into it, the "happy" part is the most important. Don't make too much of an effort if they're never going to remember it since it'll be locked away at the back of their brains.
