I have been diagnosed with oral herpes and I am on Valtrex. I keep having outbreaks, even though I am on 1000mgs of Valtrex a day. Outbreak after outbreak with no break in between them. I am seeing my doctor again tomorrow, but in the meantime I am wondering what others do for relief. I have quit smoking, started taking vitamins and exercising.. I don't know what else to do. Please help!!

You can try cutting open a garlic clove and holding the "pulp" part on an open sore..(May hurt) L-lysine is a good product. It is for herpes. All cold sores are a form of herpes. So you are doing the best thing by taking Valtrex, ask your dr. about some of the other tx, there are a few more you can try. You can also try Abreva as soon as you think you are getting a cold sore.

Yes, there isn't any. Herpes is caused by a virus. Actually, there is little cure for viruses nowadays. The only thing that you can generally do in the case of a viral infection is strengthen the immune system and hope it fights it off. Not with Herpes, the immune system can't win against it. Thus you only get to treat the symptoms. Once you're infected, it stays with you for life. So don't get infected.

Personal experience. I have had genital herpes for over 5 years.

I dont have herpes but I feel for you and don't listen to the closed minded peeps in here.....closed minds always seem to be connected to open mouths......but anyways buy a natural remedy book of some sort there just might be something in there surely that might help....just a thought...and I realize that just because a person has a VD does not mean they are the one sleeping around.I found out I had trich 1 year after I was with my husband the Dr said that it developes that slowly and we wasnt sure who gave it to who....well good luck dear...

Ignore some of these rude answers. Most of them do not realize that 97% of the population currently has a type of herpes in their body, whether it not it is active or dormant. They also probably do not know that chicken pox and cold sores are types of herpes.

My Ex had serious outbreaks. She went to see either a pharamcist, or it may have been a D.0. At the first start of the beginning blister, either the pharamchist, or Dr. gave her some "Eather" to put on the blister. It worked 90% of the time,
