"Our stomach is not a burial ground for the dead" _ Swami Vivekananda said this once
Another perspective ... Vegetarians remain veggies, not only just for the choice of taste ... There is a concept that even the cooking environment and even the character of the cook affects the person who takes the food ... need less to say of the thing that's cooked ... the emotion of the butcher who killed the animal, the emotion of the animal who got killed ... the unkindness, the fear ... all affects the body that eats it ... if you take a survey of the convicts that are ther in jail .. it could be seen that the proportion of non-veg and veg shall be much higher than that of the ordinary proportion of the same in that society ...
luv and SAI RAM,

The first time I tried to be a vegetarian I was halfway through a taco from taco bell when I started to tell my brother how good it tasted... I forgot that it was a beef taco.
That was 8 years ago. Since then, I have eaten meat once or twice. While it is tempting when I am really hungrey and I smell BBQ, I find other things that are much more fun to eat... Like corn on the cobb.
For those who miss meat there are lots of meat free meat like foods that you can buy at the store.
For me though, I am a vegetarian by choice. I have done research and I just feel better limiting how much meat is produced for a country that eats more meat per capita than any other place in the world.

I remember chicken legs as having the rubber band like tendon attaching the meat to the bone. Ick. When I was pregnant, my mother was cooking chicken and dumplings and I had her give me some. I had forgotten over the years how she cooks and ended up eating gristle and bone fragments. That really cured any residual longings for chicken. I think the magic of the KFC is salty deep fried batter- without it the KFC wouldn't be worth eating. Now that I am older and don't want to be a fat chick, I have trained myself to to loathe the greasiness of all things deep fried. So, no temptation there anymore either.

I have only been a vegetarian for a couple of weeks - for health and humane reasons - but even before that, I would not be caught dead eating KFC.
Temptation to eat meat is sometimes there - but so is temptation to eat a chocolate cake and a dozen donuts, doesn't mean it's the right thing to do.
Besides, any meat that I ever choose to eat (if I ever do again, who knows) will not be bred into filthy conditions and tortured to death. That just makes my stomach turn.

It's funny you ask because one day after being a veg for 5 yrs I had an uncontrolable hankering for some KFC. Those 11 herbs and spices taste awesome and the mashed potatoes rocked too. But I didn't eat them and instead learned how to make a baked tofu that tastes as good with similar spices. Hey, it tastes like chicken!

Not really... for me. Too a lot of people, the smell and sight of meat is disgusting and putrid. It's not like that with me; I think is smells good sometimes, but I'm not tempted enough to actually consider it. Although, I'm sure there's another 1/3 that almost (or does, when no one's looking ;]) takes a piece when it comes into sight.
...Although, of all disgusting food ( http://www.mcspotlight.org/case/pretrial/factsheet.html ), KFC is not one that tempts me. ...But I've never had it, and it looks dry and tasteless, which it probably isn't, so that might be it.

When I first became a vegetarian I was a little tempted to eat meat, but not now. Meat is disgusting.

I have been veg for nearly 20 years. Toward the end of the first year, I had a strong craving for a cold roast beef sandwich; it passed and I've never been so much as tempted since. Like someone said above, your perspective changes. I just don't interpret it as food. Strangely enough, I still like the smell of bacn cooking but it's like smelling a rose or some other non-food item: it doesn't make my mouth water. It's a smell I like, but my brain doesn't even consider it food.

I am never tempted to eat meat, but sometimes I really miss "real" cheese. Maybe it's because I grew up in Wisconsin.

I don't like meat, never have and never will like it. Put kfc in a bag and watch the grease. Let it get cold and watch the layers of white fat/grease clump on it. My only surprise was that jello and marshmallows were made from bone marrow.
