You getting diabetes depends on a lot of factors, not just being overweight, but that is usually a problem. It also depends on if someone in your ancestory had diabetes, either on your mom's side of the family or your dads. It also depends on how well your pancreas is holding up.
The pancreas is how we manufacture insulin, but remember, the pancreas can wear out over excessive use. Now, this doesn't mean you'll become diabetic, but there is always a chance for everyone.
I'd just cut back on the sugar a tad. Yeah, boy is it hard, but you can do it. Sounds a lot like you're addicted to it as well. Took me ages to beat my cravings. Still haven't conqured them all.

Fairly good I think. I probably wouldn't feel qualified to answer this question except that late onset diabetes seems to run in the maternal side of my family. My mother was just diagnosed last year and then had to have heart surgery this year. I started reading The South Beach Diet which was written by a cardiologist and a nutritionist. He says that diabetes is the first thing you usually get and that's followed up by heart disease. I am now following the South Beach Diet in order to try not to end up with diabetes and heart disease myself. I'm 47 years old. The first thing he has you do is give up sugar cold turkey for two weeks. After that you can add a little back in, but not a lot. He said that after those two weeks you will not have those sugar cravings anymore and he's right. I don't. You should check out that book from your library and read it. You may want to make some dietary changes. If you're considering trying the sugar free two weeks, that includes not only avoiding the obvious sugar, but also staying away from fruits, potatoes and all breads....muffins, doughnuts, etc....and pasta. Because those things boost your blood sugar. When you add those things back in after the two weeks you go to whole grains. You never go back to white flour products again. If you think of trying this I'd suggest reading the book first to get a full understanding. It's really just teaching you to eat properly and it straightens out your blood chemistry. It's just a really, really good overall eating plan.

I don't know about the diabetic thing Darling, but I share your frustration about craving sweets. I am a man in my 40's and am about 25 lbs overweight. I agonize over it daily yet I just can't control this craving for sweets! It's maddening. I try to counter the high fat intake with lots of excercize - that keeps my from being 100 lbs overweight. I know this does'nt answer your question but I just thought I'd remind you that you are not alone.

Have you checked to see if you have hypoglycemia? I'm not sure about how this would contribute to diabetes. One thing I found was that I took probiotics (ie acidopholous and multidopholous) I actually didn't crave sugar. It was odd.

15 lbs a week? 60 lbs per month? You are either a walking blimp or diabetic, maybe both...no PROBABLY both. If you haven't already done so - hie thee to an internalist. IUf you already have...Bye-bye.
(The fact that 'you are not alone' isn't going to save your life, Dear. Only you and your self-control and fortitude can do that. Good luck.)

Are you overweight, would be my question?
Fifteen lbs of sugar is truly EXCESSIVE. For my family we might use fifteen lbs. in a full year for 4 people.
You might want to do a little research on this.
