First tell your diabetes doctor they can help you right away. Next go online to the manufacture web site many of these Drug companies offer free or extremly low cost medications for people with no other means.
It is not easy being able to admit you have finacial problems and need assistance but in this case you must not be afraid to speak up.
Over the counter costs for insulin vaies but the least expensive injectable is by far the long acting types such as Novolin and Humalin short acting runs about 75 bucks a small vial but the long is around 20. Explain to your doctor the cost prohibtive reasons and ask him or her to structure a program that is least expensive using long acting insulin only if possible. It requires most testing and viligliance on watching your diet but it is an option.
Also call the testing strip companies for free meters and test strips, FressStyle, Accucheck and others they also have programs to get you free meters and test strips and most are 24 hr staffing via phone and offer 2 day delivery of supplies.
Finally do not forget public assistance for medical care most states offer this to SSI people and your new diabetes changes the requirements so call and check if they can now cover you and Good luck!!

I get my cat's PZI Insulin from 1 800 PetMeds. It's about $30 a bottle cheaper than my vet charges, and that's with the $17 express charge. They always give 10% off the next order, so if I can swing it, I'll get two vials. I've found it to be the same price for syringes as my doctor charges, so I just pick up the syrines from the vet. Hope this helps.

If you are on Medicare with your SSI, they will cover your medication for diabetes. If not or if this is still pending, try the ADA; most places have one listed locally (or use the national 800#). I think the American Diabetes Assn. would be your best bet for immediate help.
Good luck to you. I was very ill once and could not afford the medication. The doctor was able to give me samples until I got some assistance.

When there look on the left hand side. You'll see "brand name" and "generic name" click on one of those to find your medication. example..."Humalog" is a brand name of an insulin, so you'll look up Humalog. It's there, so you click on the link. From there follow the directions on how to apply. You usually just print out the form and take it to your dr. Or, if you don't have a printer, your dr. can print it out. It's income based. And if you qualify you'll get your medications either free of charge or at a very reduced rate.
Also, check your local Free Clinic as they usually have a diabetic clinic. If you can't find their number then call up the health department or the social service office. They should have the number.
It's again, based on income. If you qualify then you can get medication for around $4 per prescription from them.
