I have been checking my blood pressure lately, and was wondering if a diastolic pressure of 59 is too low. The pulse is like 74, and the systolic is like 124, or 124/59 I am concerned because I am not a doctor, and all I am finding on the web tells me the pulse pressure is too high. I don't feel dizzy, but now have anxiety, from thinking something may be wrong, like liver disease or pulmonary embolism. Is my worry unfounded? or should I get to the ER. I had a stress/echo test two years ago, that was normal. The doctor said I should do that every 5 years. I'm 38 years old, and slightly overweight, which should raise my blood pressure, I thought.

Please don't worry yourself, K? Diastolic normally runs 60-90, yours is on the border, not to worry. Some very healthy people have BP that run a little low, other could run a little high.
Many factors can elevate BP not just being overweight. So, sit back and relax, your alright. Hugs.

Whoah...take a deep breath. Stop taking your blood pressure unless your doctor told you to do so. Your blood pressure sounds completely normal, but you sound very anxious. Being overweight may make you more likely to have high blood pressure, but this is not necessarily the case. If you are very worried, make an appointment with your doctor, but in general, blood pressure is not an "absolute." In some people a BP of 120/80 is normal, and in others a BP of 94/60 may be normal. If you are feeling fine otherwise (except for your significant anxiety), then your bp is likely just fine at 124/59.

By the way, pulmonary embolism is not subtle...you would have severe chest pain and trouble breathing...there is no reason to believe that you have liver disease based on only your blood pressure...take a deep breath, relax, go see your doctor with a regular appointment.

I am a nurse. First why are you taking your blood pressure? Are you creating anxiety when none is warranted? Has someone told you you have a problem? Are you Grolsly overweight? Does hypertension run in your family? The blood pressure differs at different times of the day and with activity also with the volumn of fluids you take in and how much you sweat. A pressure of 124/60 is totally normal. You can quit worrying about your blood pressure. You should have a physical exam annually. Don't trust all blood pressure devices some aren't correct.

Blood pressure measurements don't count for anything if you've been walking around. Ideally, you should be sitting down for at least 5 minutes or so. Blood pressure also can vary during the day, so it's best to get measurements from similar times during the day. No caffeine in the morning either. These measurements should be repeated on a few separate occasions. Some people get "white coat hypertension" when they go to the doctor's office because they are nervous. Probably blood pressure medicines wouldn't kill you. But you don't necessarily need blood pressure medicines if your blood pressure is only high while active. When doctors study the effects of high blood pressure, they study the effects of people who are diagnosed with it as described above. You are probably at no higher cardiac risk from your blood pressure.

It all depends on what is going on with you medically. My diastolic, systolic, and heart rate are all over the place. It can be perfectly normal and just shoot up all of a sudden to Stage II hypertension just with me sitting. I have yet to establish a "normal" for me. My cardiologist prefers that a Type II diabetic strive for 135/75. I have been there occasionally but has not been sustained. After a heart ultrasound, stress test intravenously, and a CT angiogram, it has been discovered that I have some problems with the left ventricle in my heart. There is narrowing. My blood is passing through fine but is struggling with the blood passing back through to my organs. The high blood pressure as now caused scarring in my kidneys, however, I do not have renal disease, Nevertheless, my blood pressure must remain under control to prevent any further damage. Don t let people chalk your concern up to anxiety. Yes, blood pressure changes all the time dependent upon your activity. Check your blood pressure as often a you like at various times of the day but do not allow the readings to cause you to become anxious. Instead, use it as a tool to allow you to do whatever is necessary to remedy the situation (weight loss, diet, etc.). I refuse to let it be a "silent" killer for me.. Listen to your body also. It really does give you signals. You just need to pay attention. I know when mine is high and I know when it is low. Try becoming a "better" listener". Trust me. It works..

no. 59 is fine. a low systolic pressure is more significant. if this was 59 you probably would not be in any fit state to submit this question. by the way, your diastolic pressure and pulse rate are completely different and should not be compared together.

I'm a very healthy, normal weight female, and my diastolic generally runs that low.
