There is no way to know if a guy has genital herpes or not. The only obvious way to tell is if he is currently having an outbreak. Other than that, there is no way to know.
Even if a person is not having an outbreak, they can still spread it to someone else. In fact, according to Valtrex, 70% of people with genital herpes got it from their partner when they were showing no signs or symptoms of the virus (like sores).
And yes, it is possible to get cold sores from giving someone who has genital herpes oral sex. It's also possible for a person with cold sores to give someone genital herpes if they give them oral sex.
I wish it would be that easy to tell if someone had the virus or not. I got genital herpes over 5 years ago from a guy I had slept with ONE time. He was not having an outbreak or showing any signs of the virus. He also told me he had no STDs. Best thing to do if you are trying to be safe is ALWAYS insist the guy wears a condom. It is the best protection against STDs (other than abstinence of course). Good luck and be safe!

I got diagnosed with the herpes simplex virus (type 2) about 4 yrs ago, when I was still in college and had a stupid one-night stand. I understand lots of people say this, but I swear I had never done that sort of thing before. I just made a mistake that one time and all of a sudden I felt like I was going to have to live with the consequences for my entire life. The worst part was feeling I could never date men again. In the end, who wants to go out with someone who has sores round her private parts? But since a friend shared this movie https://tr.im/3yxBY everything got better.
Not only was I able to clear away all remnants of the herpes simplex virus from my body in less than 3 weeks, but I was also able to begin dating again. I even met the man of my dreams and I'm so lucky to write that just last week, in front of everyone in a crowded restaurant, he got down on one knee and proposed to me!! This method provided me the opportunity to be happy and experience real love again. Now I hope that I can help others by sharing this story.

No you cannot tell that a person has herpes just by looking at their penis because they do not always have an out break and yes you can still get herpes if you use a condom during intercourse because condoms do not protect the entire genital area....

It's possible, even with out medication. It's not common but it does happen. the first out break is usually the worst. If the person with herpes has a strong immune system and stays away from what triggers their out breaks they could go the rest of their lives with out ever having an out break.

Doc is correct, you cannot tell at all by looking, even a doctor can't tell by looking.
Herein lies the problem of having sex with someone you know so little about and trust not at all.
In the future, you might want to hold off on the intercourse until you feel trustful and close to the person.

You can't tell if someone has herpes. Doctors probably could. He should go get checked out by the doctore just in case.
