First thing is to get you rescue inhaler refilled at your pharmacy. Second, if you are still having a hard time breathing, go directly to the e.r. so you can get some medical attention. People have been known to go into respiratory failure very quickly. I always keep an extra recue inhaler handy.

Always keep an extra one handy in case of emergencies! Also, the first thing you need to do is to calm down...yes, it's difficult to do, but you must take control of your breathing until you can get help. Sips of black coffee could help. Also, if you can't get an extra prescription for your inhaler, try an OTC inhaler...you must know that they are very bad and you DO NOT want to take them regularly, but in an emergency situation it would be better than nothing.

if you're in school, go to the campus nurse -- they should keep those in stock.

if you're some place else... go to the nearest hospital so that they could give you a nebulizer therapy -- which shouldn't cost that much.

usually, when you are purchasing prescription medicines, your name is on the record, and so is your doctor's name and number. i think (not 100% sure though) that pharmacies have access to your records. always keep your doctor's number with you wherever you go, just in case you need to stop by a pharmacy to purchase another inhaler they could try calling your doctor to verify.

some helpful tips: avoid the allergen that triggers your asthma. let's say, dust inside a building triggers an attack -- go out of the building to avoid it.

Short term get a quick cup of coffee. Sip it and it'll help the airways to relax. Also once you get past this get some nettle leaves and make a tea when you need it. Inhaling the vapours and sipping the tea will relax the airways and clear the congestion.

Get a new inhaler.
Avoid whatever triggers your asthma.
Don't smoke (sounds obvious, but I've had a lot of patients with asthma that smoke - idiots!)
There are also over the counter things like Primatene mist that might work.

STRONG, BLACK COFFEE is a vasodilator. it will help until you can get medical attention. for some people, sitting in a bathroom with a hot shower running is helpful, especially for children, if you have asthma. if you have emphysema or advanced COPD, it may not help. you can also get inhalers over the counter at the drug store to use in emergency. they are a different kind of drug, but they help a little. but whenever you are in doubt, seek medical attention.

Go see your doctor! Messing with your breathing can kill you. Always refill your inhaler before it runs out.

Call your doctor and have him call the pharmacy. Especially if you are having problems breathing. If it gets to bad go to the emergency room. Asthma can kill you.

That is definitely cause to visit the Emergency Room. Have someone else drive you, or if no one else is availible, call for an ambulance.
