No they are two completely different viruses.

Herpes (genital and cold sores) are part of the herpes virus family. This also includes shingles (herpes zoster), chicken pox, and a few others. There are a totally of 8 herpes viruses in the herpes family. Genital herpes (herpes simplex virus 2) and cold sores (herpes simplex virus 1) are large blister like sores. These can be very painful, especially during the first outbreak.

Genital warts are caused by HPV (Human papillomavirus). There are over 100 different kinds of HPV. Most don't do anything, and many people are able to get rid of the virus. There are several kinds of the virus though that can lead to cancer and warts. Cervical cancer, anal cancer, penile cancer, head and neck cancer, genital warts, hand and feet warts, are all caused by HPV.

NO, not at all. Genital warts is caused by the Human Pappiloma Virus. Some people carry this virus and never develop warts, because there are so many strains of it. However, some strains cause cervical cancer in women. Herpes causes sores that can be painful. There are daily treatments for herpes, but I'm not sure if there are for the warts. But there is no cure for either, so that may be why people get them confused.

Yes, there isn't any. Herpes is caused by a virus. Actually, there is little cure for viruses nowadays. The only thing that you can generally do in the case of a viral infection is strengthen the immune system and hope it fights it off. Not with Herpes, the immune system can't win against it. Thus you only get to treat the symptoms. Once you're infected, it stays with you for life. So don't get infected.

Personal experience. I have had genital herpes for over 5 years.

Herpes causes lesions that evolve from small red bumps to blister-like lesions to open sores to scabbed-over lesions, all spread over 10-20 days--shorter for recurrent outbreaks, longer for initial infections. Many atypical symptoms and signs are common, and most people in fact have few or no symptoms.

Health care providers don't usually confuse warts with herpes lesions, and most urologists will have seen plenty of both. However, herpes is intermittent--so nobody can be certain they don't have herpes just because a provider didn't see herpes-like lesions. If you have recurrent symptoms like I just described or otherwise suspect you may have herpes (e.g., a past partner with it), have the blood test. See numerous other questions and my replies about the proper test, i.e. either the Biokit or HerpeSelect test for HSV-2 infection.

Maybe it's just dry skin, like eczema. Or maybe it's an allergy to something (food, soap, laundry detergent). In any case, you should probably have a doctor check it out, just to rule out anything else. If you can't afford a doctor, you can always go to a community clinic, or Planned Parenthood. In the meantime, don't stress too much about it, until you get a professional diagnosis. Stress might actually make your condition worse.
