This is very common in diabetics particularly in th eintial days after diagnosis. It may be a sign of Hypoglycemia(Low blood Glucose) in cases of strict control over blood glucose level.
You can safely use artificial sweetners, one is aspartame. It is available as powder and tablets. Or you can use a small amount of fruit at the time of intense desire.

I have had diabetes for 39 years now. I was taught that you couldn't have sugary sweets at all, but that didn't stop me since I got it when I was a kid (and what kid doesn't want that stuff, especially when her friends are having it). I went to a diabetes class about 5 years ago and they said NOT to waste your money on the sugar free candy. It will raise the blood sugar as much as the sugar stuff will, it doesn't taste as good, it is spendier, and it can (and probably will) give you the runs because of the stuff they put in it (it's more like a laxative). They said to go ahead and have the sugary treats, but have a small amount and only have it once in awhile in moderation. It is like alcohol: small amount, only once in awhile in moderation. I say don't deprive yourself of the sweets if you get a craving for it, just don't have a ton of it. Oh, and it all works out into carbs in the system anyway, so you give yourself insulin (if you use it) to cover for the amount of carbs you had, and a little extra for the sugar. And if you read the sugar free candies, a lot of them have sugar alcohol in them, which is basically sugar, which will raise the blood sugar even more.

I am writing to tell you what an incredible impact these methods had on my life! I have had type 2 diabetes for 27 years. For me, the worst part of this horrible disease is the severe pain I constantly get in my feet. The pain is so bad that I avoid standing and walking as much as possible. I've got to tell you that within the first month, my feet stopped hurting altogether and I can now walk totally pain free.
Believe it or not, I even danced at my niece's wedding last month, something I have not done in a many years. I've been following the book for six months now and my blood sugar is well within normal range. I feel great!
I recommend you use the Type 2 Diabetes Destroyer to naturally reverse your diabetes.

I was diabetic and I watched my calories and the time of day when I was the lowest to bring my sugar up (not too much of course) but surely you have a monitor and when you are low eat a ssssmmmaaallll portion of sweet I found a twix candy bar had less calories for my body to burn than any other candy bar so I would eat half of one then I would walk or jump dance do something of exercise to lessen the amount of sugar left in my blood stream Watch the calories Sodium too but most of all small portions are the key My doc told me a portion to me (this goes for anyone) is the palm of your hand and red meat was less than the palm of my hand so I ate several times aday but I only at portions of what would fit in my palm Sweets is the size of your little finger whatever is bigger than that don't eat This has worked wonders for me and yes sometimes all I wanted was a big bowl of ice cream but I even found beyers and braums all natural is better than nothing watch the calories and exercise that is the key to getting this under control

I am a nurse. My diabetic patients would sneak sweets into the hospital and when I checked their blood sugar levels they would be HIGH! Unfortunately it is common for diabetics to crave sweets, the very thing that they shouldn't have. Try eating fruit or something 'sugar free' although that won't be as satisfying as candy, right? Below is a diabetic dessert recipe site------

Slim Fast makes low carb, sugar free candy bars that I buy all the time. Their Coconut Almond tastes like a Mounds bar, and their Peanut Butter Crunch tastes like a Butterfinger or Clark bar. Both are delicious and satisfy my craving for chocolate and sugar. There are also a number of other sugar free candies on the market as there are ice creams. Blue Bunny (Walmart) makes butter pecan, chocolate almond, and peanut butter ice creams that are low carb and sweetened with Splenda. They are all delicious!! You would never know you were eating sugar free ice cream, but you tests for your blood sugar will show the difference.
Good luck!!!

First you will have to get your BS under control! That is the number one reason that you crave sweets, because your running high and your body likes and wants to keep it high.
Get it lower and then have a small piece of something.

one thing I learned at a diabetic class....sugar is sugar is sugar....that's what most diabetics done understand...your body breaks down the carbs you eat...to SUGAR....so bread = sugar.....rice= sugar....potatoes=sugar......so you do have to watch what you are eating...the Dr. said it's no different if you eat a bowl of jello, or a bowl of white rice...your body doesnt know the difference.....you can control diabetes with proper diet and lots of walking....I did....I lost 60 lbs....I no longer have diabetes. Good luck...

Sugar substitutes are available. You can eat a sweet on the condition that the carbohydrate and calories are taken from your diet.
