I would appreciate any and all tips anyone has for making the cones and curl at Dairy Queen or any other tips or tricks you have learned over the years or months you have worked at a DQ. I have been there just a week and I am catching on slowly, but it is a busy place and I want to be able to get things right the FIRST time instead of wasting so much product and time. ANY AND ALL TIPS OR TRICKS WILL BE APPRECIATED!!!!

When making cones start filling and when a ball is formed press down and come up a little bit and make another ball. When topping off and making a curl just press down slightly and then drop your hand down quickly and twist. Good luck

Don't get the ice cream out so fast. Do it slowly at first. You should just move the cone in small circles and you'll get a swirl. I shouldn't be that hard. Just do it slowly at first, then you will get use to it. I don't think there are any special tricks for swirling a cone. I haven't worked at DQ but I knew how to do it at a buffet.

I always love doing this at the ice cream machines.

When you're putting the ice cream in the cone, push it up and down a little bit three or four times. Then, stop the ice cream flow and curl the cone around a little tiny bit.

ah it's harder the most people think. Don't worry about it, you'll learn it eventually. That ice cream your wasting cost them pennies. I remember learning how to dip an ice cream cone. At first I would drop all the ice cream in the dip and ruin all the dip. Eventually i ended up being the best. Be patient, and have fun! and don't make a career out of it

i too had the same problem, my cones were all lopsided and I always had someone else make them for me. but after a month or so (it depends if ur right in the head) you'll catch on. What I eventually did was ask someone to "teach" me how to make the cones right and they had me literally stand there and make practice cones. In which I handed out to customers for free good day for the customers for getting free ice cream bad day for me for getting no ice cream. I caught on pretty fast, but sometimes I can't even get the size of the ice cream on the cone right. good luck ask someone to teach you,

As you stop the machine you lift the cone up and then straight down.. that should make a really good curl.. Isn't there someone there who can show you how?

Ask the questions, no matter what your labled the new person until you prove otherwise. Also new employees are almost always more in the way than anything but everyone has to learn and start somwhere. I will say tho the whole asking for time off is a huge turnoff to a manager when you first start a job unless it something was said before you were hired.

it probably one of those thing that come with practice....don't be so hard on yourself and I'm sure in no time you will have the best curl there...i mean you've only been doing it a week...so don't get discouraged and give yourself some credit.

For those of you making nasty comments, work is work, don't denigrate it. You should be ashamed of yourselves.

And it IS harder than it looks and practice is the key and the people at your job should help you with this BIG TIME, don't be afraid to ask them. (A person who asks looks dumb for a minute a person who doesn't remains dumb for a lifetime and all that...)

You are clearly conscientious and this trait will get you far!
