It depends... If the rest of them are going to be arriving soon then I guess it is ok. You worked hard and want the place to look good when everyone arrives. However as soon the majority of people get there....CHILL!!!! You are throwing a party and you should be enjoying it, not constantly cleaning up after people.

It's not rude of you to do that if front of your guests. This is your home and it is your responsibility to maintain it.
However, if you believe in guest etiquette, it's rude of them to leave empty beer bottles around and leave all the lights on. They may not realize it that though, so in the future, if this bothers you, set out house rules before people come and stay, because it's very hard to do so after.

the items aren't misplaced, they are dumped, rudely -by your guests, i might add. it is not rude of you to do that in front of them. i would place a trash container close to the worst ones and hope they get the hint. as for the lights, i would make a point, like laughingly say 'my lights haven't had this much of a work out in a long time' or something like that. i straight out tell people to turn lights off unless they plan on returning to the room. i don't think its rude of me. i could never stand lights left on.

Since it is a 3 day party it is entirely appropriate to pick up as you go. I would avoid bringing out the mop, toilet brushes, vaccuums, and dusting equipment in front of them though! Wait till they're out on a small walk, shopping trip or asleep to do that. Feel free to assign tasks to your guests if they offer to help. But it is okay to let things get a little messy and take some time to enjoy them too.

Why would it be rude to be picking up in front of your guests?

I think it's rather rude of your houseguests to be leaving the lights on, not putting their own empties somewhere and not pitching in with whatever they can.

It's a great way for a houseguest to not be invited back, frankly

It's not rude... but you can ask for help like saying.. Mary can you please hold this trash bag for me or John please help me pick up some of these bottles.. Or Sally can you be a dear and give me a hand in the kitchen... Ask your guest if they wouldn't mind turning the lights off when they leave a room.. Its that simple...

I think you have houseguests who are very rude and disrespectful and don't make good guests. Unfortunately, in order to protect your home (not to mention your sanity), you have no choice but to clean up after them - in front of them. If they can't be more considerate than to let you clean up their messes, I would seriously think twice before inviting them into your home again.

Everyone is different, but I would be just like you and think its rude of you to do that in front of your guests.

I would kindly remind them where the garbage can is at in the house. Especially if they are going to be there for three days. It is rude of them to expect you to clean up after them as if they were a bunch of three year old children.

i don't see it as rude. what i see is rude is how your guests are just trashing your place. they should have more courtesy to throw away their trash and offer to put their items in the sink and turn off lights that they turned on.
