There are some general guidelines - never eat ANY food group in excess - carbs, protiens, fats - be as balanced as possible. Avoid refined/over-processed foods...drink plenty of water and increase your activity levels.
Many people have jumped on the low carb high protien band wagon because it reduces blood glucose levels with very little effort, but it also poses risks to kidneys and other organs. Our body needs glucose to function properly - too much is bad, too little is bad.
You are going to have to experiment with food to find what will work for you. I am diabetic and can eat watermelon, blueberries, yams and apricots without any change in my blood glucose levels. My mother can eat apples, carrots, blueberries and oatmeal. She cannot eat watermelon, I cannot eat carrots and apples without our blood sugars spiking beyond our limits. I tolerate beef really well, she does not; we both love chicken and most fish, though I can eat all seafood and she is limited to only fish and clams. Each diabetic is a little different. We can both eat french or itallian bread on a limited basis. I do great on speghetti but her sugars go up.
My sister-in-law and my brother are even different from us. I have clients who are diabetic and their diet differs from mine and my mother's as well.
Again, each diabetic is different. Follow the general rules then find what will work best for you and know that as you age, foods will change for you as well...

If you do some searching on the net, you may be surprised to see various claims from Ayurvedic doctors that claim diabetes can successfully be controlled. At least it is hopeful, by taking some herbs such as methi seed/powder/supplements, karela juice/supplement, etc. These aren't common items for many people, but can probably be mail ordered without much problem from stores in the larger metropolitan areas. Of course, there are so many prohibited foods, yet the good thing is that there are many helpful foods. If you do a search for "holistic" and "diabetes" I'm sure you'll find -- as I did -- so many helpful suggestions on diet. One helpful site suggested methi seeds as a common practice to combat diabetes. Methi is another name for fenugreek. I now soak a teaspoon of the seeds one day in advance, and take it the first thing in the morning on an empty stomach. You can do the research to find more information on this practice. Also, I understand that spices and foods that may be helpful are cinnamon, tumeric, honey, which are commonly found. Barley is very good, as well as oats. There is a vast amount of help on the internet as I've found just only recently. Some have suggested some caution in low carb diet which may be a wise suggestion. On the whole, diet and exercise are key factors in controlling the disease. Losing weight if one is over-weight will help. Walking is a good exercise regimen. I'm sure as the diabetes affects more lives, we will see more and more public warnings about taking sodas, sugar-rich foods, "junk" foods, "fast" foods, snack foods, and so on.

Obviously anything with refined sugar is bad, but people don't realize that things like pretzels are bad too, these kind of carbs raise the glycemic index. I would say chicken, lamb, salad, veggies, fruit in moderation, complex carbs like beans, whole, grains, don't be faked by highly processed "made with whole wheat" labels that are nothing more than junk. Try to eat foods with the least amount of processing, If it comes in a box, can, bag, or jar, it's been processed a bit. Think about it. Try to eat foods that are in their natural state without all the processing.

High blood levels of glucose can cause several problems, including frequent urination, excessive thirst, hunger, fatigue, weight loss, and blurry vision. However, because type 2 diabetes develops slowly, some people with high blood sugar experience no symptoms at all. How to treat diabetes naturally https://tr.im/XJDwb
Symptoms of type 1 diabetes:
Increased thirst
Increased urination
Weight loss in spite of increased appetite
Fatigue
Nausea
Vomiting
Patients with type 1 diabetes usually develop symptoms over a short period of time, and the condition is often diagnosed in an emergency setting.
Symptoms of type 2 diabetes:
Increased thirst
Increased urination
Increased appetite
Fatigue
Blurred vision
Slow-healing infections
Impotence in men
If you think you have diabetes i think you should have a checkup and speak with your doctor just in case.

People who plan their weekly meals tend to be more successful at losing weight than those who don’t. Plan your dishes to incorporate healthy carbs such as sweet potato and wholegrain pasta, green vegetables and lean proteins, buy all of the ingredients in advance and don’t be tempted to eat out or order in.

Use spray oil as an alternative to pouring. One squirt contains just one calorie compared to 120 calories from a tablespoon. If you use oil inside your cooking daily, this small change could lose which you stone over the year.
