my std symptoms appeared june '04 but i went to see a doc and got diagnosed thru gram stain and urinalysis with trichomoniasis, november '04 (i reclined seeing doc coz im shy at first).
i was cured, but still there came a on and off uti, in the following months until early this year and right now im doing okay for months.

my question is, will there be an effect on me? will i still have bacteria of other std inside when i didnt had any contact except that im married now and being faithful?
i see white,cotton-like smegma on my vaginal folds, is it normal?
before i heve menstruation, my discharge smells but not too fishy unlike before, is this ok? any advice?

When we are born, unless infected by our mothers, we are a clean slate and brand new. As we grow, our bodies come in contact with all sorts of bacteria, viruses, fungi, protozoa and our blood and other body fluids and tissues become a cocktail of antigens, antibodies and proteins. And STD is just another kind of infection, just like a cold or flu, but because it's in the genital area, people feel weird about it.

To answer your question, a past infection with tichomoniasis was treated, and unless you are reinfected, there is no effect on you. You will not have the bacteria inside you but you may have antibodies to recent infections, just like you would have to a cold or flu you had recently.

When you have your period, you discharge will smell more because of the presence of blood and uterine lining that is being shed so that sounds normal. And yes, some white discharge or smegma is normal (small amounts), larger amounts of cottage cheese white discharge with redness, pain, swelling, itching could indicate a yeast infection. If you have been taking antibiotics for a UTI, you may have gotten a yeast infection.

Whenever you are worried you have an infection or STD, you should visit your health care provider. Don't be shy to make an appt or tell the health care provider what the problem is, you are a grown married women and taking care of your body is one of the responsibilities you have now.

Don't jump to "serious" so quickly, or imagine how you would feel if you broke up, and just enjoy the guy...Relax and enjoy being 17 and having fun with the guy...Develop a new attitude about the relationship which is more about enjoying your time together and less about serious feelings because you are 17 and have a lot more time to investigate serious relationships as you grow and learn...This part of your life should focus on fun and lighthearted relationships...You have a lot that's going to change about yourself very soon, and getting too serious about a relationship could hinder that at your age...
