There isn't just one test that is reliable for all STDs. Syphilis can only be detected with blood tests. There isn't a blood test for gonorrhea - it is best detected with a vaginal culture and gram stain. Yeast is best detected with vaginal culture and gram stain - though it can sometimes be detected with a urinalysis test. Trichimonas is best detected with culture & wet prep, but may also be seen in urinalysis - though could be missed. Herpes is detected with special cultures and appearance of sores. HIV is detected with special blood tests. Sooo, any STD workup that does not include blood tests for syphillis (RPR) & HIV, AND vaginal swabs for culture, wet prep and gram stains is
incomplete and an STD can be missed.
